Height growth?

So my little girl hasn't really put any inches in height (according to measurements) in almost 2 months. She's put on weight for sure and moved from the 10% to the 25-50% in weight, but for height she dropped from 50-75% to 50%. She was born pretty tall and was 26.5 inches at her 6-7 month appt but now at 8 months she's still that. Should I be worried? Has anyone else experienced that? Doc said they'd just watch it for her 9 month appt but interested to hear from you ladies.

Re: Height growth?

  • We had the same thing happen. Between her 4mo appt and her 6mo appt, she didn't grow in height at all. Doctor didn't say anything at all about it so I tried not to worry. Is it possible that they were inaccurate when they measured her at her last appt? I've heard of this happening a lot. My office stretches out her leg and measures that way. I heard it's better if they mark it on the paper on the table and then measure that.

  • At this point I wouldn't worry about it.  If this trend continues over a longer period of time I would bring it up.  The way they measure height for babies really leaves room for error.  It's just a difficult measurement to get on babies to be 100% accurate.
  • I wouldn't worry. At our 6 month appointment she was measured 3 times with 3 very different numbers. Each one got about an inch shorter. They do stretch out her legs and mark the paper but she would schooch up every time messing up the accuracy. The Dr even remeasured her and commented that he wanted to make sure so that she would show growth at the next appointment.

  • My dr said not to worry too much about height because it wasn't a very accurate measure. DS stayed the same height for about six weeks but when he went back a few weeks later he had grown a little. He's under his growth curve a little now but like I said the dr said it was NBD.
  • Yeah it does seem like we get different measurements at different doctors' offices. So i guess i'll try not to think about it unless it continues. I do know she's growing out of her 9 month clothing and they are short on her so that must mean she's growing right?

Honestly I don't really trust the accuracy of the height/length measurement if it's just them stretching the baby out and marking it on the paper where they are laying.  That being said, I wouldn't worry about it until at least after your next well check.

  • We've been consistently dropping in height percentages. Neither h or I are tall people. The pedi said sometimes babies that eat well early on will grow rapidly then when they hit 6 mos or so their genetic make up starts playing more of a roll
