Did you or do you have to do two glucose tests? I already had one and it was fine. Now I was told I need to have another one by 28 weeks. Is this typical?
Did they test you early because you have risk factors like a history in previous pregnancies or family history? If that's the case I can see them testing you early and then again at the regular timeframe.
They never told me I was high risk. No diabetes in precious pregnancy. My mother has type 1 diabetes but no gestational diabetes. They tested me around 18 weeks I think and now they want to test me at 28 weeks. I don't remember being tested twice during my first pregnancy.
I had the same schedule of 1 hour first and the 3 hour if I fail.
However, with my last pregnancy, I had the test really early (like 14 weeks) because I was so sick. I failed the 1 hour and had to do the 3 hour. Barely passed the 3 hour but it was so early in the pregnancy, I had to repeat the cycle at 26 weeks to see if I'd developed full on GD. Failed the 1 hour a second time, but again fairly passed the 3 hour.
Did you pass the 1 hour really close to the cut off point? I could see a repeat if that were the case.

No, actually my glucose level was low. The normal range was 65 - 139 and my level was 63
I only have a two hour test at 28 weeks. My midwives group switched from the 1 hour test after so many people were failing it.
I think tendency for Type 1 diabetes may be somewhat hereditary. So if your mother has it you might be at an increased risk of developing some form of diabetes later in life? My assumption is that's why they tested you early for GD. Perhaps
It sounds like since you had it done on the earlier end, they want to check again to make sure it hasn't developed since then.
I had a risk factor (large prior baby) so I had it done at 19 weeks and will do it again at 28 weeks (just the 1 hour). My results at the 19 week test were low/normal (83)
I'm pretty sure if they do it early (unless you fail then), you still have to do the 24-28 week one. So for whatever reason they checked you early, and though you passed, you get to go again now!
