Femara question

I've been with my RE for a month now, and I generally trust their opinions, but one thing I do find kind of odd.  I've been doing a lot of research and everywhere I look, people are only on femara for 5 days.  My first round I was on 5mg for a week, went back for bloodwork and ultrasound, had to take it for 2 more days (so a total of 9) and didn't O.  They said it was because I wasn't on it for long enough.  Now I am taking the same dose again for longer until my estrogen gets lower.  Does anyone have experience with this?

I did 3 Femara cycles, although the first got royally messed up and the last was cancelled because I "fizzled" and H left to go OOT, but here's what I was given:

Cycle 1: 5mg, 5mg, 2.5mg (3 days)

Cycle 2: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg (4 days)

Cycle 3:  2.5mg for 5 days in a row

What were your u/s scans along the way?  Were you not responding, no follies?  Like I said, 2 out of 3 of my cycles fizzled out, it was only the second one that I responded well and we even really had a shot.

For the first round I had an u/s on day 7, 11, 13, 15, 18.  I have so many tiny follicles (over 30 on each ovary) it can be hard for them to get a good measurement, but I started with one 11mm and two 10.5, then by day 13 I had one that got to 14mm but by day 15 it shrunk and there was another 12mm on the other ovary, then by day 18 they were all under 10mm.  So I started responding then I fizzled out.

I have taken femara for 6 cycles. My RE had me on 7.5mg for 5 days (not always on the same CD's though) during all of those cycles. I am a slow responder, but I did produce at least one good follie, if not two, every cycle. It does seem a little odd to have you take femara for 9 days. Maybe you should get a second opinion from a different RE if it would make you feel more confident in your treatment plan. Good luck!

I've done three cycles of Femara and I've only ever taken it for 5 days (cd 3-7) . I'd talk to your RE and see exactly why they prescribes it that way, or get a second opinion to be more confident in your plan.Good luck!
