I never have this happen, I swear. But I just found out I get to go to Orlando to present at a conference this fall. I have never been before, and DH, DD, and I have never been to Disney World (DH has been to Disneyland as a kid). DD is 4 and really into princesses, so I think she is at a good age for it. However, Diagon Alley is opening this summer at Universal Studios and my cousins, who are also big Harry Potter fans, said it is worth it to go. Both DH and I would love it. I don't think DD would like that or understand it very well, and we'd have to take turns on rides and etc., so we'd probably just go the two of us.
On top of that, my great-aunt who lives in Massachusetts has had some recent medical issues and is currently in a nursing facility, getting ready to move to assisted living somewhere on the East Coast. My parents want to go out there to see her and her family and DH thinks we should go as well. We'd probably have some beach time, some whale watching, and some time in Boston. We went there a couple of years ago and I always love it there. So which would you do?
1) Disney World this fall as a family, no other vacations (because it is so expensive).
2) Massachusetts, no family vacation to FL. I would just go for the conference and try to get in some vacationing during the down time.
3) Massachusetts as a family, then just DH and I to Universal Studios this fall.

This. Disney doesn't have to be crazy expensive if you have time to plan. There are on property Disney resorts for like $98/night in the fall. (I only know this because we're going in November and vie been researching myself!)
#1. We just took DS on his first trip to FL and we had an absolute blast. I have always looked forward to traveling and vacationing with him (perk of OAD!) and now I cannot wait for our next vacation.
I'm not the hugest Disney fan, but we did do Disney for part of our time there. We all enjoyed it. It's so fun to see the excitement on your LO's face when they experience something new and magical like that.

But, visiting your aunt is very important, especially if you are close. I think I'm leaning toward option 2, and maybe do Disney another time...and you can do Disney pretty cheap, even staying onsite, just do your research.
