Anybody get side by side double and...

edited May 2014 in Nurseries and Baby Gear
Anybody get a side by side double stroller and later wished they got an inline one? Or the other way round, you got an inline and wish you had a side by side?
Trying to hear people's opinions in favor and against each kind.
Thanks!

  • Lurking, but you should also ask the Multiples board. A lot of twin moms start with an inline/tandem (double snap and go) then move to side by sides. My babies are still cooking so I have no personal experience, but I will use the tandem when they're in their infant car seats and then the side by side later. We're tall and I worried they would outgrow the tandem quicker than the side by side.

My girls are 28 months apart. I really thought an online would be best. I already had an uppababy vista but didn't think my older daughter would like the rumble seat so I went out and purchased a baby jogger city select. I really disliked it. You can pop curbs and it felt very off balance with the car seat on top. I ended up getting a good price on a baby jogger city mini gt double and LOVE it. I didnt think I'd like a side by side but it's great. Pushes so easily. I purchased the rumble seat for the vista and surprising my older daughter likes it. I use it for quick trips. If I know we'll be out most of the day, I'll bring the city mini gt double.

Yeah my kids will be 33 months apart and I am struggling with deciding which type will be better. I know for a fact my DD will not want to walk on her own when we go for walks anytime soon, she is a total nut, so a ride-on or stand-on would not work for us for walks. She would scream or try to jump off. A side by side is def better for that purpose. So I am considering the city mini (we have the GT single and love it). BUT for any time I will be taking them to the store or something an inline, esp one which doesn't require a cumbersome carseat attachment would be better... And I am liking the Joovy Ergo Caboose. So I am torn. And I really DON'T want to buy two, one for walks and one for shopping trips...

Not my own experience, but one of my friends told me not to get an inline because she hated hers. She said her kids were constantly fighting over who got to sit in front or back. (Granted, those type of arguments are a ways off if one of the kiddos is an infant.)

  • I got both, a joovy ultralight sit n stand and city mini. I really liked the joovy ultralight, but I sold it when my youngest was about 2, because he didnt really fit in the front seat anymore. I really like my city mini double too, but it is quite a bit heavier.

Generally speaking I much prefer side by sides.  They are just easier to push, no fighting, etc.

  • My sister had the side by side. (she had a bob double stroller) her boys were only 13 months apart. It was great. They could talk and play/interact and see everything. No fights with who's sitting behind etc. Also both of her boys are deaf. So it's also a better thing so they can see what's happening around them. Since 90 percent of what we learn is thru visual means, and 10 percent is through hearing. The side by side stroller gave the boys access to learning through visual means a lot better than having one kid stuck in the back.
It is personal preference I believe... but I too prefer the side by side just by seeing my nephews.
  •  I had an inline for ds 2 & 3 who were 18 mo apart. I was happy with it-I thought the side-by-sides seemed so wide and bulky to get through aisles and crowds and such.

Side by side.  Easier to push and steer.  The City Mini double folds flat and has a very small footprint.  I have been using my double for three years and never got stuck in a crowd and I fit in most stores at the mall.

    Side by side.  No regrets.

  • I have both a double snap and go and a side by side. I ONLY use the snap and go if I absolutely have to-if for some reason a store doesn't have shopping carts. It is so hard to steer it's dumb.

We LOVE our side by side. We ultimately went that route since they are easier to steer and then no child gets the crap view. But unless you get an umbrella stroller there really aren't many light weight ones if that matters to you. Ours is heavy but so worth it.

Curious what inline you have? I am considering an inline and side by side now. It seems that tandems are not well loved, but some inlines are.

A tandem and an inline are the same thing.  The ones I hear the best things about are the B-Ready, City Select and some of the Phil and Teds models (Navigator in particular).

  • I have the BJCS which I loved when my 2u2 where smaller. My children are both on the tall side and at some point it just wasn't super comfortable for them anymore. Right now they are still riding comfortably in the BOB Revolution duellie. I actually really like both stroller for different times in their lives. We knew we wanted to have a big family though, so making the investment made sense for us. I also LOVE BJCM's!!!

  • I have the Joovy Ultralight Caboose and the BOB Double Revolution.  The side by side is pretty much impossible when going indoors, but the best outside.  I love the Joovy for shopping trips and times my older son wants to walk most of the time (zoo, park, etc).
