Trouble TTC

Intro, may I join you ?

Hi ladies,

I thought I would intro here as my ttc journey has led me in this direction. I normally post on TTCAL and TTGP br figured you ladies might have even more insight on my situation ...

I am 30 years old and DH is 31. We began ttc in 2-13 and it took 8 months to get our first bfp which ended in a blighted ovum and a d&c. I got another bfp in march and that turned out to be ectopic which resulted in losing my right tube. This road has been a bumpy one..

My ob told me to see an RE and my first appointment is on Tuesday. Do you ladies have any advice? It is suspected that my remaining tube may be compromised and also I have low progesterone so those seem to be the problems I am facing.

Thank you for reading and I hope to be able to join this board and get and give some support! I am sorry you all find yourselves here and wish you all good luck !

Me (30) DH (31) Married 5/13, TTC since 2/13

Welcome!!  This board is AMAZING and everyone is so great, filled with experience, information, and support.  GL at your first RE appointment...speaking for myself...seeing an RE was like a sense of relief almost because they are SO knowledgable (well most of them are), and you kind of feel like you at least have a plan and things under control as much as they can be!

  • Hello and welcome!  Seeing an RE might sound like a scary thing, but I think that you might a little bit of relief.  An RE is going to help you find out why things are happening and they're going to help you come up with a game plan.

I would recommend bringing some paper and a pen.  There will be a lot of information exchanged and I found that being able to take notes helped me remember things.  Also, write down any questions you have so that you'll remember to ask the RE in your appointment.

You will probably have cycle day 3 (CD3) bloodwork and ultrasound to make sure that your numbers are ok.  I would imagine you would probably have an HSG to see if there are any blockages in your tube or obstructions in your uterus.

Married on October 20, 2012.  Began trying in January 2013.

  • Welcome, nice to meet you! Sorry about your losses. I hope you really like your RE.

I would recommend not being shy, just jumping in and asking anything you are wondering about. It's fine to let them know what you were thinking/hoping and get their opinion.

My biggest regret from my first RE consult is just sitting and listening. Actually, I was ready for more details and had a lot of nagging questions about my body after TTC for so long, but since I didn't really speak up, I think the RE just assumed I was overwhelmed. So now I will get to see him again next week for an HSG and I will be dying to talk more, but I think much of the questions will have to wait for our next consult after all the testing.

So, yes, get the most you can out of that first appointment...they are really expensive and we should get our money's worth, haha! Now that you have an expert, it would be a great chance to get more clarification on any nagging questions you might have.

Also, it's probably nice to bring DH with you! I don't know if that was your plan anyways, but my DH and I didn't realize it was kind of a big deal to get a first consult so he didn't bother to come and I didn't push him to. I think he would have gotten a lot out of seeing the office and meeting the doctor.

    Good luck!

Welcome to the board! It's a great resource for us newbies. My only advice would be to ask questions, even if you are afraid they are dumb or that you will come across as a know-it-all. My first appointment with my doctor (still not sure if she is an actual RE, another question I should have just come out and asked), she briefly mentioned Clomid. Alarm bells rang in my head, but I just kept quiet when I should have immediately asked about monitoring. Remember that they may have gone to med school, but in the end it is YOUR body and you have a right to all the info you want.

We have all struggled in many ways during this journey, so you definitely came to the right board. Hopefully your stay is short and sweet!

I second PPs advice on REs. Best of luck at your appointment and speak up!
