MOTN FEEDS - diaper change?

I've started this EASY method, and something called "dream feed" is mentioned. Basically in the MOTN you feed and burp and then go right back to sleep.

I admit when I burp her she falls asleep then after I change her diaper in the MOTN and her eyes pop open.

But I mean is it ok to go through the whole night without a new diaper? How else would you do a "dream feed"?

  • I only change if there is poop. I load up on the diaper cream before bed.

I change it at the start of the feed. lights off. no talking. I try for no eye contact because she seems to focus more when I look right at her.

    then swaddle

then boob. gentle burp. and back to sleep.
This is exactly what I do. I know she's *probably* fine without a diaper change overnight, but I feel bad leaving her in a wet diaper.

  • I change before every feed in the dark no talking or eye contact, feed a pumped bottle, and I'd he is still awake I nurse. Total awake time about 30 minutes.
  • Like some other women said, I change in the semi-darkness, feed, burp, and back to bed right away.

  • I will change her before feeds if she's already awake or if she poops. If it's one of those feeds where she's already in bed with me and still half sleep then I just feed her in the side lying position and we go back to sleep. I make sure to apply diaper cream just in case we go all night without a change.

  • Ok, hmm. I use gdiapers and the inserts kind of break down (they are biodegradable) if they are wet for a long time. Maybe I could use double inserts.

I just find that she really wakes up when I change her. But I have to burp her before changing her or lifting her legs makes her vomit. And I have to feed her before changing her because she's crying for food.

Maybe if I could either a) not change her at all or b) change her first, then feed and burp her which lulls her back to sleep anyway, then I'd be set.

  • Sometimes we do and sometimes we dont. If she sleeps 9-4 my husband will go in and change her and ill feed her and back to bed. If she wakes multiple times then we maybe change her once. For some reason she doesnt make a peep when he changes her but if I do it she will be frantic to eat. We put aquafor on her before bedtime in case she does poopnbut sleeps for a good stretch.

  • We usually do unswaddle, eat, change, finish eating, burp, reswaddle, rock to sleep. Unless he really sucks it down and we don't have a second half. Low light. Quick change if only a pee diaper (no wipes or cream).

Maybe I'll skip the 3-4a change if not poop. He's been a bear to get back down after that one for a couple of nights.

  • If I 'only change if he's pooped', then I would change 3-6 diapers a night. Lol.

I either change it before I feed him, if I KNOW he has pooped, otherwise I change him midway through a feed because he usually poops while he's eating.
And his diaper is usually at its limit of holding pee by the 5 hour mark, if not sooner, so I'd have to change it a couple times in the night anyway.

If he poops while being burped and immediately passes out (has happened twice) then I let him sleep. We load up bum cream at bedtime.
  • I change her diaper before I nurse her. I only keep the TV on (no sound) so there is very little light. If she pees or poops during the feeding I change her diaper after about 5 minutes of burping then burp her another 15 where she falls back asleep.
  • I change him before feeding him. We keep the lights dim and little to no talking and he always eats and goes back to sleep. But he hates having a wet diaper so if I didn't change him he wouldn't sleep as long when I put him back to bed.
  • I tried not changing overnight and he kept peeing through his diapers. I change before each feed. He sleeps in bed with me so I usually wake at his early hunger cues so while he cries during a change, it's not a starving cry, just a general I-don't-want-to-be-nude cry.
  • I tend to change at half- time for any MOTN feeds. That way he stops screaming because he's had breast #1, the change wakes him up, breast #2 conks him out.

  • Not to be snarky, but I'm pretty sure al of our babies are probably crying because they're hungry. It's a lot eaaier to change while the fuss/cry and then let them fall back asleep nursing, then get them sleepy while nursing and wake them back up by changing them. Just my opinion.

I don't change her diaper unless it's poopy or super full.  If I do, then she won't go back to sleep.

This! My rationale being, when they start sleeping through the night, they won't have a diaper change.
  • I change her diaper no matter what and I always put Vaseline at night because that's when she's in her diaper longer, I want to avoid a diaper rash at all cost. Then I nurse and burp and within 10 minutes she's asleep like clock work.

This is me, except I use Boudreaux's Butt Paste. She usually falls asleep on the boob so getting her back to sleep isn't a problem. Also, she is poopy at nearly every diaper change so i change her. I don't wake her up every hour to check her diaper though. However long she goes between feeds is also how long she goes between diaper changes at night.

This for us too. If I don't change mid feed, she doesn't finish the second boob and wakes up again to eat too soon.

I change only if she's pooped or is super-wet. She sometimes sleeps 6-7 hours and I only wake up if she does, so she goes that long between changes unless she gets hungry. I usually change halfway through feeding to avoid any hangry crying.

DH does her bath and last diaper before bed, and keeps forgetting the butt cream. I keep reminding him, but he keeps fucking forgetting. The day she breaks out with a rash he is going to feel awful.

  • I've been feeding then changing then burping because it takes lo about 5-10 mins after feeding to burp. I'd like to change then feed, so maybe we will switch once lo is a better burper. for now, the change post-feed helps the milk settle and burps come out. he's so tiny I change every time we feed, and his diaper is always dirty. he doesn't have too much trouble falling asleep after I burp him.

I feed 1/2 the bottle at wake up, burp, change diaper, then feed rest of bottle and burp again. This way if he gets more awake when changed, he will get drowsy again when fed remainder of the bottle. From wake up to me back in bed it takes about 20-25 minutes
  • I change halfway through the feeding to wake him back up to finish th second side, then he conks back out while eating. But... twice now he has pooped IMMEDIATELY before falling asleep... I feel like a terrible parent, but I have not changed him then! And he survived til morning... But I definitely slather up on Vaseline or desitin so I don't feel so bad during night changes.
