I'm sorry, I've forgotten who it was that wanted to know about the injections for migraines for their mom (I think?). Short version below!!
The injections are NOT horrible. Either someone has a low pain tolerance or was having fun at my expense, but the shots were like bee stings. Nothing unmanageable...if you can stand getting a tattoo, it shouldn't be a problem.
The worst part (for me anyway) was the forehead. There isn't a lot of muscle there so it hurts more. It was 24 injections over the entire head, neck, and shoulder area, but it was over pretty quickly.
On to what I found out: it will take 7 to 10 days to notice a difference in the migraines. You really have to go back for a second round of injections (12 weeks from the first) to get the full effect. This is because they don't typically give the full dosage the first time to be sure you tolerate it. It takes until about 6 weeks after the second round of shots to make the call as to whether the Botox will help your migraines. So from the first round of injections that's 18 weeks to full effect, if I understood correctly.
My face and head feel really weird now, like the muscles are stiff...and my eyebrows raise at different speeds, which is pretty funny.
Short version:
* wouldn't do it for funsies, but if it will get rid of the migraines it was NBD.
* need two rounds of Botox spaced 12 weeks apart to really get full effect
* interesting note: one of the side effects is headache. 8-}
