Pregnant after IF

XP: Question from a desperate IFV

Hi Ladies,
This question has been on my mind. I wasn't going to ask until we decided to cycle again, but I cannot stop thinking about it. Some of you may remember my disastrous DE cycle, 30 ER, 21M, 15F, 4 (day 6) blasts, 1 normal which ended in a Chemical pregnancy.

This cycle was the first with my current RE, and she didn't have much to compare to with the cycles involving my OE’s. However, in reviewing my medical records, and comparing with our DE cycle she feels our issue may be more of a sperm issue than my eggs. The tentative plan after having a lap next month is to do a few DS IUI’s and incorporating intralipid infusions.
Is there anyone on this board who has both DOR and MFI, who found success with DS IUI’s or DS IVF? If so, was there anything special you did that helped you find success, such as a specific protocol, supplements, etc.? TIA!!

Re: XP: Question from a desperate IFV

  • I'm not quite sure what DOR is, but we (along with many women on this board and Third Party Reproduction) have used DS for IVF.  We did everything we could to get DH sperm, but it didn't work out.  First cycle with DS and I'm preggo with one beautiful bean.  When choosing a DS profile, we picked 2 that we liked, bought the in-depth genetic profile, and sent it to our RE.  Our RE then advised, based on comparing my genetic profile with the donor, which one we should pick.  As for the cycle success, I took it really easy during the cycle itself and 2ww.  I was super diligent about eating well, sleep, acupuncture and just keeping a positive attitude.  My RE said it's really all about the chromosonal match that helps to make it work, but the lifestyle choices I made, I believe at least, also helped.

IVF #2 Mar 2014- success.... baby girl born 11/28/14

  • Sorry, this probably isn't going to be what you want to hear, but we are MFI and I'm not a fan of DS IUIs. We did two (almost three). All failed. And I don't have DOR (my egg production is fantastic). I just think the success rates of IUIs are so low even in the best possible scenarios, it isn't worth the cost of the DS each insemination. I would go DS IVF, though.

The reason I even ask is because I wonder if I'm wasting money and I should move straight into an IVF or skip it all and do a DE/DS cycle vs Embryo adoption. I just want to be a mom. I'm tired of this rollercoaster; we've been on it for way to long!!

  • @mm29 I know the feeling. I realize each person is different, but if we had to do it over again, I would have skipped the IUIs and went straight into IVF. With each month, there was so much hope that the IUI might work and it was just devastating when it didn't. I really feel like I put myself through all of that (plus the cost!) for nothing.

IVF was the best thing we did.

We had MFI and PCOS, so we were always going to do IVF BUT my RE swore by "The Male Prenatal" by Coast Science. He said he's seen huge changes in sperm in as little as 2-4 weeks. My DH took it but we never tested his sperm again to see if there was still a problem. With the IVF, we had 3 fertilize naturally and 3 ICSI, BUT the ICSI was because the membrane around my eggs were too hard for the sperm to get through, not because of a sperm problem.
Me (31) - PCOS with insulin resistance

4 rounds of Clomid = no response

My hubby and I have DOR (Diminished Ovarian Reserve) + MFI and my RE recommended we go straight to IVF and not waste our time with IUI.  Can't comment on DS though.  You got a lot of eggs retrieved for having DOR.  I only got 3!

I wish whenI cycled with my own eggs we had 30 eggs retrieved!  It was a donor egg cycle!
