Pupp Rash

Hi ladies!!! I am currently 35 weeks pregnant with b/g twins and have all the sudden erupted with a rash on my huge over stretched belly!

I showed the nurse yesterday at the office and was told by the Dr to "just put some cortisone on it and take benadryl". Well, I did both and I think I angered it some more! The itching is so intense and would not be anything id ever want to wish on anyone!

Have any of you fellow MoM experienced this?? Apparently according to the sites, only cure is delivery. From weeks 28-33 my babies kept trying to come early and at last check I was already 2cm dilated, but as of this week no more contractions so I doubt I'll be giving birth soon!

And help or advice would be great!!! Thank you :)

Re: Pupp Rash

  • Oh, mama, good luck. Nothing helped very much for me and it spread like wildfire until it was all over my belly, arms, and legs. Sarna lotion dulled the itching enough to help me get to sleep (for about an hour at a time), but none of the steroids did any good. Mine was a particularly severe case, though. Hopefully you can find something that helps you :(.

I had a bad case that lasted at least a month postpartum. I used to slather myself in aloe gel and lay under a fan. The worst thing for it seemed to be when I got hot, so try to avoid that. I got some prescription strength hydrocortisone too, so that helped sometimes. Good luck- so sorry it's happening to you!

  • Thank you all for the responses!! Sending my husband out for the Sarna cream as we speak! I think the OTC hydrocortisone made it worst! It was more painful after that. Right now, ice packs are my bad friends!! Plus the cold makes the babies dance which is nice for a bit to assure me that the babies are moving still!
  • Oh no! You have my condolences!! I was just going agree with keeping it cool, and take lots of baths with Aveeno soothing oatmeal packets. Hang in there!

  • OMG i didnt realize this was a pregnancy thing!!! Ive had a rash on the underside of my belly for like a week and a half and it is killing me!!!! I will have to check out that sarna cream!!!

Hi ladies! So it's a bit after 3am and I just got home not that long ago from a trip to L&D. My bp shot up to 160/100 and contractions were strong and close. After monitoring me for a couple hours, BP decreased. The on call dr was able to look up results from my 24 hr urine collection and found that it was over 300 (my ob is out of town and has not had a chance to review labs...thank God the oncall Dr was able to)! I have to do another collection and if it's high they will decide if I will be induced. Lucky for me I did not have any dilation changes since last week so I'll just have to keep monitoring the painful contractions!

My rash however took a turn for the worst! The oncall Dr took one look at it and also confirmed that it is PUPPs. She said it's very common, esp for MoM. Sadly she said there was no cure for it other than induction! She advised that I continue ice packs, A&D ointment (since hydrocortisone made it worst) and my aveeno colloidal cream. She also warned me that it will indeed spread, which I have noticed already on my thighs!!!

Just wanted to give a update...seriously think this is worst than my 3-5 min contractions!! I'm so sad that throughout all of these constant attempts to stop my contractions, a rash is what may cause me to deliver early!! Thanks for letting me rant ladies :)
  • I delivered a week early entirely because of my puppps rash. It wasn't ideal, but I was risking infection from the blisters on my legs that wouldn't stop itching and then breaking/oozing. I hope that your next collection goes ok and you can keep them in a little longer.

  • So sorry Janet! It's great that you are 35 weeks though! Find your favorite spot, put some ice packs and cream on your rash and do nothing all day! That rash makes it really hard to enjoy your last moments before babies arrive, but it makes the delivery all that sweeter!

  • Thanks ladies. So glad to have this forum to vent!! Not many ppl understand since they don't have twins or are MoMs who'd understand :)
  • Oh man, I had it too and it was awful. I actually liked the green bottle of gold bond lotion(the cooling kind) and ice packs. It is terrible though, and I am so sorry you are dealing with it!

Kdarden, did yours go away after giving birth? I read online that there are exceptions and some still continue to have it after birth! I'm scared of how this rash plus a incision site would work out :(

Mine peaked for about 10 days and then settled down into something more manageable until birth. No signs of it since birth!
