Pregnant after IF

Anyone else with possible SGA?

A few weeks ago my fundal height measured a week behind and it's still a week behind but growing, my ob ordered an ultrasound and it has SGA written on it. I am looking forward to my apt. With my MFM tomorrow because he's much easier to talk to and reassuring. Anyone else do growth scans or been diagnosed with SGA ( small gestational age)? I'm trying not to be to concerned since the u/s isn't scheduled for 3 weeks...so i would think concern is low..??

Re: Anyone else with possible SGA?

  • I don't remember hearing my MFM use the term SGA for my girl twin, but that's basically what their concern was. I believe she was a week and a half behind while my boy was 2 weeks ahead. The growth scans have to be 3 or 4 weeks apart in order to really get an idea of growth since it's still so incremental at this stage. I think in a few weeks when your baby is packing on fat they might be able to check growth sooner. I was so worried between scans but at my last one the MFM said it looks like she's just a small baby since she's continuing to grow, just not as fast as her brother. FX you get good news!

I know it's so hard not to worry but I'm hoping that everything is okay. There is a range with the fundal height which is considered normal. At 28 weeks they would be looking for 26-30 cm. However, just because you fall below that doesn't mean that there is something wrong. I agree that if they were more concerned you'd have an ultrasound sooner. The fact that your'e continuing to grow is a good sign.

With my DD she was diagnosed with IUGR, intrauterine growth restriction at 37 weeks because my fundal height stopped increasing and then confirmed by ultrasound. They did the ultrasound right away because they were concerned. I'm doing weekly growth scans now for this baby since I'm concerned higher risk. I look at it as a great way to see the baby more often :)

I'm sure you just have a smaller baby in there. Try not to stress!

Oh and I forgot to mention that if you're baby is breech or transverse you may get a smaller measurement because of it. This little guy was breech until about a week ago and I've noticed a big difference on how much rounder my stomach looks.
