Your Baby's Name

I saw this on another board and wanted to see what you all had to say.  We all went back and forth over baby names.  Now that our babies are a couple months old are you happy with the name you picked?  We couldn't decided and didn't finally decided between 2 names until after our baby was born. We picked Cassandra Jane (Cassie) and couldn't be happier with it. It fits her very well and more than once I have called her Sassy Cassie!  If you had a name picked before your baby was born did you change the name once you saw your baby?

  • We had our name picked out since we found out we were expecting. We thought of a few more but always went back to Kylie Rose! We love it and it fits her perfectly! Smiley Kylie!

  • I had a totally different name picked out for LO, but the moment I saw him I knew it didn't fit him. I decided on Lucas and now wish I would have named him Luke instead. I only call him Luke and tell everyone his name is Luke.
  • I can't see either of my kids being called anything else.
  • Landon's name had been decided since I had become pregnant with his older sister. I love his name but have yet to come up with a nick name for him
  • We had the name Maya picked out from the beginning. It was MHs idea and I still love it. We didn't decide on the middle name until right before she was born and I still am not sure if I love it but it's only a middle name

  • We settled on a name shortly after finding out we were having a boy. We had gone back and fourth with names for weeks. It was the first name brought up that BOTH DH and I really liked (we have very different taste in names we found out). We never looked back after deciding and it fits him perfectly! Sometimes I look at him and think of the other names we considered and none of them fit at all.

I love DS3's name (Finn) but I have been working on DH's family history for a while now and just stumbled across the name Dawson.  Part of me thinks, Man, that would have been a good name!

But I do love his name!  It was hard to come up with a 3rd boy name.

  • For both boys we went in with two names and picked once we met them. DS1 was between Evan and Landon. Evan won out and suits him perfectly. He's just not a Landon.

Nathan was almost Miles, but DS1 was set on Nathan so we went with it. I'm happy with the choice.
  • We picked our son's name when we first started talking kids. It fits him perfectly.

  • We had 3 names picked, which included middle names, before LO was born. But I had kind of already named her after the 20 week u/s. We made our final decision just before I pushed. DH wanted to say hello and use her name as soon as he saw her.
Her first name is beautiful, easy to remember and is one that not everyone has. Her middle name was after H's grandmother, who would have been 101 if she were still alive. I love her name. I love saying her name.
  • I never imagined I would have a DD named Isla; it's just NMS.

I let DH take the lead in naming DD2 since DD1's name was my pick. DH wanted something with "meaning" and since we were living on the Isle of ____ I suggested Isla. I was really surprised that he liked it so much.

Isla just felt right throughout my pregnancy even though it wasn't my favorite and she just looks like an Isla.

DH is now having some name regret with all the mispronunciations and misspellings that come along with Isla. I did warn him about that...

  • It's perfect for her, her first name Jenna means "heaven" and her middle name Grace means "blessing". She's our rainbow baby, so it's pretty fitting. I love her name and am happy it fits her!

  • DH and I made lists of our top boys and girls names about three weeks into dating. I'm happy that we have been able to use my favorite names. DS came first and got my #1 fave name, DD got my second favorite name.

I read back and it sounds like I don't like DD#2's name! lol! That isn't the case. I think Isla is such a beautiful name, but I tend to like the "cute factor." If I didn't like the name there is no way I would have let DH choose it.

Our second choice compromise name was Edith with the nn Edie. Isla fits DD#2 so much better than that.

  • I've always loved the name Annabelle. As soon as I found out I was pregnant I knew if we had a girl that's what I wanted to name her. Fortunately DH loved it too. We never considered any other names. And I love her name even more now!

  • We were team green and had 2 boy names picked,  And we chose Norris, and we actually didn't put it on our boy list until about 1 1/2 before he came. So it took us a few day get used to it and remember it, but now we love it!!

  • We had been home with LO for 2 days before we could pick I name we both left was right. We had 5 names for a girl or boy (team green) and in the end we didn't feel they were right. We compromised in the end. I was the middle name because it has huge meaning to me, and he wanted a less formal, uncommon, but easy to say/recognize.

We are both pleased with her name, and glad we got to spend time with her to make sure to fit before filling out the paperwork.

  • Molly had always been a favorite of mine but DH wasn't set on it. one site had the name meaning "prayed for" and given the rocky road to get pregnant, it totally fit. our runner up was Aubrey but when she was born, we knew she was a Molly. Ava is my second top favorite but DH hates it because it makes him think of someone he doesn't like.

  • We love our name for LO. We were team green and had about 4 top names each for a boy and a girl. None of the other names would fit. At all. We are both thrilled with our choice, and gets tons of seemingly genuine compliments on it. We found out after choosing the name, that the middle name has a lot of family significance.
  • J1 goes by Jay. His first name is actually two names. The first is not traditional and the second is. As he gets older, we tend to call him the second name more often. It just fits.

J2's name (Jacob) fits him perfectly. I hate that people want to call him Jake right now, but I like that nickname for when he gets older.

  • We had a boy name picked out from our 20week stillbirth in 2011. We named that baby Hayleigh, MN after both of her grandma's (their MNs are the same). We decided on Kinleigh for a girl name, using the -leigh ending as a way of honoring her big sister, and her MN is after my MN-my grandma's first name. We are still holding on to that boy name, just in case... But I think Kinleigh just fits. Not too traditional, not too crazy. (I know, spelling is a little weird-MH picked spelling of our first, and we stuck with it to honor her).

  • We could not agree on a name, we even stopped talking about it for probably two or three months because it was so exhausting. Then I got stuck on the name Stella, I wasn't budging unless he could come up with something I at least liked. He couldn't, so we made a compromise, I let him have the middle name. On Christmas Eve we finally had her name, Stella rose. I think it fits her, she's sassy and spunky and I can't imagine her having any other name.
  • We had R.P. picked out years ago.  When we found out we were having a boy, DH suddently had second thoughts.  He really wanted to name LO after his father- JD (boring name).  We conpromised and went with R.D. instead.  I regret giving in on the middle name but oh well, I still love the first name.  Sometimes I do look at LO and think he kinda looks like a Michael, but we already have several of those in the family.

  • I don't regret dd's name Emersyn, but maybe the spelling I chose. Most people are correct in wanting to spell it "son". I changed it a few weeks before she was born because I thought it seemed more feminine. Oh well, we mostly just call her Emmie Rae :)

  • I've had LOs first name decided for about 5 years and it really fits her. Her middle name is my grandmothers name...I wanted a Catholic name somewhere, so it's an added bonus.
  • I love the name we chose for LO, but as expected we do have to correct people's pronounciation of it often. My husband and I mostly call her "Baby" though. So Dirty Dancing of us.
  • We always had Abigail as a girl name and Griffin (MIL's maiden name) as a boy name since first starting to TTC in early 2010. We didn't find out the sex of our 21 week loss (we were going to be team green), and decided to keep our names. I put all the baby stuff we'd already been given in a box and labeled it Abby/Griffin. Now after two more losses and 3 years after our first loss, we have both Abby and Griffin, which blows my mind. I never imagined we'd be so lucky.

  • We had various names picked out before bfp...we tried for a long time. :)  Anna Jo is named after my MIL who passed from ovarian cancer in 2009 (2 months after DD/DS were born).  Her name is Joanne and she made DH promise that we would not use her name because she hated it.  We wanted to honor her and Anna/Ann(e) is a multi-generational family name on my side too.  We went with a double first name to stay true to Joanne without disobeying her.  ;)   Patton is her middle name after my grandparents.  They lived to 94 and died within 24 hours of one another.  An absolute love story from two amazing people.  Anna Jo Patton fits her name perfectly.  I couldn't imagine her as anything else.

After I found out I was pregnant, we started discussing names. We came up with Layla and Zara for a girl and a bunch of random not-so-great names for a boy -- luckily we had a girl :)  I was pretty 50/50 on both girl names, but DH started leaning towards Layla and when we found out we were having a girl, he just started referring to her as that. I was still concerned that it wouldn't suit her in the end, so we kept Zara around as an alternate, just in case, but we never picked a middle name to go with it (I wanted Virginia for family reasons, but DH is not a fan). When the dr took her out during my c/s, my husband just started calling her Layla and I was like, "Does she look like a Layla??" and he said yes. When I finally saw her, I agreed, and I think it suits her well now. She will have issues with spelling (so many options) and already people mispronounce it as Leela or Lila, even though I thought I picked the most straightforward spelling for Lay-la. Oh well. My parents always called me by my middle name and no one can pronounce OR spell it (despite there now being a famous person with the name!) so at least she won't have it as bad as I did :)

I think we may hold onto Zara if we have another girl -- I still like it!

We had LO's middle name picked out right away because it's to honor FIL and my grandfather. We were stuck between two first names and decided to wait until we met her to choose. The name I didn't think we were going to go with actually fit better! I'm so glad I didn't get anything personalized with the name I thought we were going to pick because it doesn't suit her at all. It's a beautiful name, it's just not hers. I love her name so much and we get a lot of compliments on it. Although she'll get it sung to her for her whole life because famous song.

Ahh yes, my LO will definitely have this issue as well...

DH and I each had different favorites, so then I through out my other number 1, Wyatt (cause yes, I'm a total cowgirl at heart and love the movie tombstone, love the real Wyatt Earps story, and just anything western) and DH fell in love with the name instantly. I also found it to be a very masculine, timeless name. It suits LO perfect and we call him Quiet Wyatt cause the only time he cries is when he's "gotta go".

Hubby and I both LOVED Wyatt for similar reasons - classic, western But it didnt flow with our super italian last name so we reluctantly took it off the list
We were Wyatt fans too but our last name starts with a T and it just didn't sound right.

We had a girls name picked out from the day we found out I was pregnant but team blue, we had two boy names we were considering Noah and Jacob. From the day LO was born my H was set on Jacob but it took a couple of weeks for me to say yeah definitely thats his name. Now I absolutely love it :) Edited because I realised I'd repeated his name! I love it that much :p

DDs name was never my top choice, but was always in the top 5. We battled with names for weeks. Once we found out we were having a girl, we compiled a list and agreed upon a name to eliminate weekly. Once it got down to 5, we each picked two. We ended up with three names: Kennedy, McKinley, and Teagan. I was not a fan of McKinley, but we agreed on Teagan. That became her name! I call her my little teacup/teapot now. I can't imagine another name!!
