Bragplaint--dd leaned farting is funny because her brother laughs when he farts. Lol. We had a good sentence too. Dd and I play and I tell her in a silly voice she's a bad girl. When I said it she responded "no, (DDs name) is good girl". Might have to quit it with the bad girl thing. Lol. We also did a party and she was responding to questions from less familiar adults. Unfortunately she played by herself the entire time which she hadn't done in a while. Can't win em all, I guess.
DD1 just turned 6 and we had her first friend birthday party on Saturday. It was so great! I prepped DD ahead of time on what we were going to do at the party because she had kind of gotten stuck on the idea of having her party be the same as a party that her friend had a few weeks ago.
She also wanted Doc McStuffins decorations, and she had planned to dress up as Doc McStuffins (assuming the role of a character is another area where she gets kind of scripted), and I was going to let her since it was her party. She had picked out the outfit and laid out her play doctor's coat and everything. At the last minute she decided it wasn't fancy enough, so she changed into a peacock leotard tutu ensemble that had nothing to do with Doc McStuffins, and I was so happy to see her breaking away from her scripts on her own. She had a great time at the party, and not once did she try to rope any of her friends into doing a vet exam on her stuffed animals. The kids had fun, and so did DH and I!
We had a Bday party Saturday at a jumphouse place.
DD did great and the biggest brag is she ate pizza!
When we went into the party room she saw the pizza and said "pizza please" and then ate the whole slice.
She has always refused pizza (doesn't like the sauce texture) so this is huge, we tried offering pizza again last night to see if it was just all the sensory input or just being so hungry that had let her handle the sauce but she ate it all up again!
This is huge for her. It's still carby but she ate the pepperoni so maybe we can add a different meat and some veggies in once she is completely comfortable with eating pizza.

DS pooped in the potty at daycare! DH went to go pick DS up and the afternoon teacher told him the news! A little girl from DS's class also told DH the same news, too! Those little girls in his class are always tattling on DS and it is funny when they do.
DS did poop in his pants at home though last night.
I guess I will take it if he poops at daycare and school and later at home.
The University I went to has a big ABA department, and is conducting a grant-funded study about parent-implemented ABA treatments. I discovered it randomly while Googling the other day. You get three months of free in-home therapist visits and reimbursement for the 3 or 4 times you have to travel to the school for assessments. They accepted my son, so it looks like we'll have free therapy over the summer! I'm excited to see how it goes, and looking forward to learning more things I can implement at home with him.
@Av8rEmily I'm an apraxia mom too! DS1 is 3 and started speech at 31 months. Unfortunately he only gets to go once every two weeks which I know is not enough but I'm hoping he gets into the special needs preK in town.
My brag...grandma had to take DS1 to speech yesterday cause we are in Vegas (hooray, seeing Britney tonight!!) and she reported back that DS1 counted to 5 yesterday! I have no way to tell if he knows his numbers or not so I'm glad he's starting to count! He has also learned how to FaceTime us himself so I'm getting lots of FaceTime requests this trip
DS1 and DS2 love rolling around together on the floor and they laugh and laugh! I love seeing there relationship grow! And DS1 knows his teacher's name
DS1: 4/15/2011
Dx: ASD, SPD and receptive and expressive speech delay at 21 months
My brag was going to be that DD tried the new balance beam at her new daycare/school - the teacher told me that after the boys (mainly her entire class is boys) left it alone per no longer shiny that she tapped it with her feet a couple times, tried to put a foot up, then her teacher helped her get her weak leg up and she tried it! Huge - new AND a challenge!
BEST BRAG - Last night, after about 7 weeks in her social group, DD softly whispered that she wanted a turn TO the other kids totally unprompted!!! Though the anxiety that surrounds the pre and post hour of "group" as DD calls it, it is totally getting her close to her goals. And made me feel better about the check I had to write, a new mom and kid joined too and it was good talking to that mom (her son is high functioning ASD) and DD talked about "O" and asked what his family is like (like who is in it, brother or sister, mom and/or dad).
DD1 is starting to pick up on what it means to be a good sport. We had a couple of incidents at soccer games where she would get mad at the other team when they scored and do something like yell, "How dare you beat us!" Oy. DH jumped all over that quickly, and we reinforced at home, and last week she did SO much better and actually got a high five from a girl on the other team -- which I think helped drive the lesson home.
Late, and really more an exploit of a splinter skill than a brag, but he's the youngest in his aftercare class and is the only one who's memorized all the songs they're performing at the spring production in a few weeks. He's now been tasked with teaching the older kids the lyrics.
The downside is that I am very, very tired of hearing "The Sidewalks of New York."
I made some baseball bases to work on game skills with Nate. We want him to do an adaptive t-ball next summer. He likes to watch baseball with DH so we think he should be able to do it.
I showed him how to run the bases once after hitting the ball and he did it correctly. It was so funny we had him do it again and video taped it.
He's not really running. It is a fast walk with a pause and toe tap at each base. When he got to home plate he grabbed the top of the T to help him balance while he tapped home plate.
DS took the DIBELS Assessment today. At the beginning of the year he was "below Benchmark". At Mid year he was "Well Below Benchmark". Today he was "At Benchmark" on 2 of the 3 evals and I think Composite was "At Benchmark". Benchmark is still well below average but this is ENORMOUS progress.
This his so his pattern. you start to get good and worried and then he starts making significant progress. I think a second year of K with this teacher who adores and understands him (her background is in SpEd). Will really help. He'll also already know two kids in the class (also repeating). One of the kids is his small group buddy and they really like each other.
Another brag. We went to DS's school 25th Anniversary carnival tonight. Many kids said hi and he responded appropriately. He went off to talk to them or play for shirt periods a few times. One little boy,who he's been playing hide and seek with after school lately (while us moms talk), look over and saw DS's was present and his whole face just completely lit up. It was so sweet to see how much he is liked and to see the reciprocal friendships. Oh and not one kid told on him. Several times through out the year when the kids have seen me they (especially the girls) immediately rat him out for various minor offenses
Thanks @Av8rEmily! I will check your info suggestions out! I'm in Canada, so things are a little different and I'm also in a pretty small town, no colleges at all. I just got back from Vegas tonight and DS was a total chatterbox! It was hilarious!
