baby k'tan? ugh.... did I get the wrong size

Trying out my baby k'tan today.  Patricia is in the sling.  She is small just over 8 lbs.

I can hardly get the wrap around her and me.  She is so tightly bound I can see her little toes pushing against the material and she is asleep so not stretching out,

worst part is the cross at teh back is digging into my back and the wrap into my rib cage.   I'm a 10-12 dress isze which indicates M but I think this is too small.

Am I just not wearing it correctly or is this the way this is supposed to feel.

Re: baby k'tan? ugh.... did I get the wrong size

  • Mine does not feel that tight. It is certainly snug, but not at all uncomfortable. My baby was about 8 pounds the first time we used it and the newborn hold keeps them pretty curled up, not stretched out. But it sounds to me like yours is too small. You might just have a larger ribcage than average.

  • I was wondering the same thing!  I bought the size that corresponded to my weight/height on the chart, and it's just SO tight.  Because of that, I haven't been using it much at all, maybe three times so far.  I feel like the baby can't be comfortable in there, and when I take her out her legs have lines on them from fabric pressing into her skin (usually from her pants).  Also, the material isn't very breathable and it's so hot!  I don't see how I could possibly wear that thing in the summertime as LO already gets so sweaty in there, especially where her head rests on my chest.  I also find it's bottom heavy, like LO sags at the bottom.  All in all, ugh.  I want to buy another brand but DH will have a fit because I had insisted on buying the K'Tan, and I don't want to admit that I hate it.  He doesn't understand why I haven't been using it.  I also hate that it's fitted to one person, so DH can't even use it...

(That was quite a rant, sorry!)

  • I bought an ergo baby as a second carrier for DH.  But it's so thick an insulated I don't think I could get him to put it on.

worst part.  I can still take them back, but I think I threw out the receipt!

    so pissed.

  • I had the same problem - I ordered a small and it was like putting on a straight jacket. When I went to get one fitted at a local store, I was easily a medium, if not a large (I'm a dress size six). The shopkeeper said the sizes run really funky.

I have the breeze and haven't had any problems. I'm a 12 and the medium is good for us. I have heard they're really good about making exchanges. Maybe try calling or emailing them?

  • I'm sorry you didn't get the right fit :( it does stretch after using it for a awhile. So it might seem tight now, but after a few uses it will stretch. If you go up a size it might sag too much and no longer be supportive.

I know when I put mine on after washing it's a little tighter than usual, but stretches out to a comfy fit.
  • I have the opposite problem. I got a small and I feel like it may be too big. The fabric is kind of floppy at the top and his head doesn't seem supported. I ordered an xs last night so I'll try that to, but the sizing seems really wacky to me. Especially because I keep reading it stretches out but also that it shrinks so I'm confused.

  • My size according to the chart didn't fit and the next size was huge on me. Returned it and got the moby ,it's a lot of fabric but at least it fits and it can be adjusted if my husband wants to wear it too
  • yeah I just don't think I have the coordination or the cofidence to wrap a moby correctly.  I bought one but never unrolled it.

k'tan was in my mind ideal because you could put it on and quickly get a baby in there without too much thought or fuss.

  • It actually sounds to me like you probably do have the right size. It stretches with use, so it does feel tight at first. Like pp said, I would recommend just stretching it yourself and also make sure the fabric isn't bunched up before you put lo in there. I also called the customer service when I first got mine and they were really helpful with tips, so maybe you can try that too. I love my k'tan and have used it with both my lo's now...
