Sippy Cup alternative

I'd like to get LO to start using a normal cup without soaking herself. Any one have any suggestions for what non sippy/straw cup they are using?

Re: Sippy Cup alternative

  • I just buy little kids cups from target. It does start out messy, but it gets better.

  • I wanted to do the same thing and I found these cups by Avent at Target. Kinda hard to explain but they are basically like a regular cup but has a depressed "lid." When she drinks her mouth pushes in the rim to let the liquid flow out. If the rim isn't pushed in it doesn't leak, even if turned all the way upside down.

Are they easy to transition from to a real cup without a lid after?

We've never used sippies, just started with open faced cups. We have tiny glasses from Ikea that are about shot-glass size. We also let her sip out of any of our adult-size glasses or cups as well.

  • Those that are using open faced cups, are your babies holding them or are you? My DS can't hold a cup, so unless I held it for him he wouldn't drink.
  • Thanks! Going to have to get one ASAP!

Both. I let her explore with the glass on her own, and she's working on figuring out how to hold it and tip it without spilling everywhere. When I actually want her to drink some, I help her hold it. He won't learn to hold a cup until you let him practice with it!

  • Great stuff! Thanks for the tips on the Avent cups! I didn't see them when I went and ended up buying something else (can't remember the name). I can get the liquid out and so can Charley but daddy??? nope, he says it's broken. MEN!
