March 2014 Moms

Please share my joy!!

So I'm sure people know by now, but I had real trouble feeding LO from the word go. She slipped to the end of my nipple every 15-25 seconds causing lots of damage. She also wasn't getting fed and cried for the whole 12ish days we tried. I stopped and started expressing instead because by then I has mastitis and was suffering big style.

Well since then I have offered the breast whenever I'm home, but she's always rejected it and had a bottle of expressed instead. LO is now 6weeks2days. On Friday however, she fed for two minutes off me, had a big burp then fed for another three!!!!! Then nothing over the weekend.... Today however she has had breast and only breast for the last 10hours!!!! I'm not giving up! She can do it and we will keep going!!!

Every time I have fed her today I have literally soaked through her clothes with tears of joy!!! Her feeding from me has meant just so much to me - it's really an emotional thing! I didn't know I would feel this strongly until I had her. Don't give up ladies if you still want to it is possible!!!!!

  • Congrats! I cried too when Fiona finally latched properly. Enjoy momma and good job for sticking with it.

  • I'm so happy that she's back on the breast for you!  Not quite the same, but when DD1 was 10 months old she went on a nursing strike and I thought she was done with BFing forever. I was so emotional about it - I called my pedi to ask advice and ended up crying on the phone to her, lol.  When we were able to work through it and get her back on the breast I'd never been so happy!  I hope this is the start of smooth sailing for your BFing relationship!

  • Thanks everyone! And @babycaps‌ I'm sorry you had similar issues - especially with the time it's taken you guys. I'm so glad you are working through it too - it really is magical when they do feed! I never thought I would feel this way, but I guess it is important to me. I could reason that through expressing she was still getting fed, but it is such a hassle and she has to wait for her milk to warm or we find somewhere that can warm it if out and about. I'm just so so proud of her!!
  • What a sweet victory :)
    Congratulations!!!

  • Congrats! Good job perservering! I know it's challenging! You're doing great!
  • I've got tears in my eyes for you! Nope. They're falling now.

We're working on it. Chase had a tongue tie that was missed that has caused a lot of problems for BF'ing. I've got staph infections in both nipples currently that I'm working to heal with antibiotics. My LActation specialist appointment is next week. He'll be 6wks old by then and will have been off the boob for a month. I'm praying we'll be able to start BF'ing next week. FX for the both of us!

  • @Ceecee312‌ my LO has shown it's possible!!! I really am praying you two can work it out too! I can't believe how all of a sudden it just seemed to click for her - just like a light going on! So sudden and out of the blue I'm completely overwhelmed! You can do it!!! Hang in there!!
  • That's wonderful! I teared up reading your post.
