Evangeline

I have recently been really stuck on Evangeline but I'm worried it is too much name for a little girl.  I don't mind nn's in general but I'm not a fan of the nn Eva.  We thought it may be a nice mn.  Caroline is a family name we love, how do you feel about Caroline Evangeline?  Too much?  We still have lots of time, just trying some things out.  Thanks!

I don't get how Evangeline is too much. She will be a teen/young adult/adult most of her life, not a little kid. You can call her Evangeline (or Evie or Lina...).

I do think Caroline Evangeline is a bit much, though.
    I do like Lina...
  • Ok, point well taken!  Would you pair is with a single syllable mn?

  • Throwing another opinion into the ring: Love Caroline, so I vote Caroline.

I'm not a fan of Evangeline. It looks so much like evangelist that it gives me that association. And it's a bigger name than I generally like, for any age.

  • Our pastor's little 2 year old girl is named Evangaline and they call her Gilly (like Jilly.) I think it's a very pretty name and agree it belongs as a FN.
  • Our little one turned out to be a boy but if it were a girl it was Caroline Evangeline. I love both names. I posted a while ago about Caroline Evangeline and got lots of positive comments. I don't think you could go wrong with either name!
  • Love Evangeline! It's the middle name for our DD on the way. If we would have picked it for the first, her middle would have been Noelle.

Evangeline is one of those names that is just perfect. Perfectly beautiful, perfectly elegant, a bunch of pretty nns and a great high culture reference. I would put it in the fn position because it is just too great to waste on a mn. I wouldn't put it with Caroline, but I would ditch Caroline in a heartbeat to use Evangeline.

Exactly! My daughter is Evangeline Harper :)
My hubs wanted to call her Evie (before she was born) and we both love the reference to the character from V for Vendetta. But she just became Eva after she was born. Now she's 16 months old and her name fits her perfectly. She's a little character too, so she gets called by her full name a lot! ;)
I like Harper for Harper Lee and because Harpur College is the division of the university my husband and I both attended, and where we met. I also like a nn that is a little more fresh/current with a classic, beautiful fn.

I think Evangeline Caroline is a bit much. Especially considering some people pronounce it EvangeLINE instead of EvangeLEEN. I think two names with the same ending but different pronunciations is kind of confusing.
  • DH and I LOVE Evangeline! It's one of our top girl names. We have encountered others who think it's too much or too religious sounding or too 'grand-sounding." But others who really love it. I think Evie is a really cute nn but it has a lot of nn potential. I also would not pair it with Caroline.

  • I vote for Evangeline as a fn.  DD is Evangeline Mei (prounced May/Mae).  I don't think it's too much name for her at all.  Her usual nn is Evie which I love but I really like Lina too.

  • I love Evangeline! I was in TJMaxx the other day and heard a mom to call it out to her roughly 8 year old daughter. I swooned.

Evangeline Caroline is too much, though.

  • Our daughter (due 7/1) will be Evangeline Marie, nn Evie. Being an atheist, I had a bit of a problem with the "evangelical" connotation, but according to BTN Evangeline means "good news." My family has received a lot of bad news lately, so I feel like it's just perfect for us.

Yes I love this, we are very firm Christians so the religious sound doesn't bother me, but yes, evangelist is really "someone to spreads the good news".  In the Christian sense, it is someone who shares the gospel but does not need to mean that.
  • I dislike it. Probably because my train of thought goes Evangeline-evangelist-greasyTVpreacher.. It also seems to be "trying too hard." I do like Eva over Evie.
  • I think Evangeline is lovely, and it has so many nicknames to choose from: Eve, Eva, Evan, Evanie, Lina, Angel, Vanny, Eline, etc

  • I really do love the name Evangeline. I feel the same as you though, it seems like "too much" so I'm not sure if I could go with it. It's a lovely name though!

Caroline Evangeline is too much of a mouthful IMO.

  • I love the name Evangeline; it's my top choice if we have a girl. I do think Evangeline Caroline has quite a few syllables, but it would also depend on the number of syllables in your last name.

  • thanks for all the great suggestions!
  • Love it. It's on our list as Evangeline Inez (family name). I like Evie a lot for a nn.
