Teacher Appreciation Week?

DS is in DC full time.  We started a new school in August so some things they do are different from the last place he was at. 

I just got an email about Teacher Appreciation Week.  While I think this is a sweet idea, it included a different "theme" for each day of the week as well as an attachment of the teacher's "favorites."  Am I actually expected to bring something for each of his teachers for each day?  Is this common?  

Here's the list for the week:  

Monday will be: Quench Their Thirst Day (Favorite Beverage)

Tuesday will be : Snack Attack Day (Favorite Snack)

Wednesday will be: From the Heart  Day (A gift from the heart)

Thursday will be: Diners, Drive-ins and Dives (Favorite Restaurant)

Friday will be: What's that Smell Day (Favorite Scent)

On the one hand, I guess it's nice to have a resource of what the teachers prefer if we wanted to get them something, but on the other hand this seems to be like sending an invitation to a party and including a registry/gift list and puts a bad taste in my mouth on the whole thing.  Thoughts?  Opinions?  Is this something that's actually pretty common and I just somehow missed that memo when I signed up to send my kid to DC  :-??

Honestly, I would just pick one day and bring a gift for that one-if you're planning on doing a gift. At our daycare, we just do a freewill offering and one of the parents on the parent committee gets Target giftcards for all of the teachers. We also do a themed potluck each day that parents can sign up to bring an item for lunch (we go to a daycare with 170 kiddos though, so there's a lot of parents to help out with this type of thing)..

IMO, this is super tacky of the DCC.  I totally plan to do something for DS's teachers for Teacher App'n Week, but I would not like them telling me what type or how many gifts to bring. I think things like this should be done because the giver wants to do it and they should give whatever they are comfortable with.

Yea I wouldn't like this either. Our DC asks for $5 per family for a catered lunch one day. We usually give gift cards as gifts.

Tacky! I do one gift around Christmas time for DS's 3k program. That's it. I can't imagine every parent would do something like this at your DC either, so I wouldn't feel guilty if you choose not to participate.

Ok, I'm glad I wasn't missing something here!  I figured the whole "bring something from the heart" thing would be sweet and DS could do something for that, but it did seem excessive to have something for everyday and then the *bonus* list of what the teachers like.  Thanks!

ETA:  I just realized the email doesn't even say what week this is supposed to be happening, just that it's "coming up."  Guess they can't fault me for not bringing anything if they don't give me the actual dates for the week.

i think thats weird..what are you going to do--send a can of diet coke?
our center did a collection of $25 per family (optional) and they are going to be doing various things throughout the week for the teachers. I dont know what those things are..i assume a catered breakfast and lunch one day...then maybe some type of gift card as well..i have no idea, tho i am sure I will get an update. I gave the $25 and will send a card in from DS, maybe  with his hand print on it or something. I do love his teacher, so want to acknowledge it from a personal level, not just a group gift that she wont know we participated in.

I would just pick one day or do something with DS like a craft project.

Teacher appreciation week or day has not actually been mentioned at our daycare, which is actually a school that goes up to eighth grade. I do plan on getting each of his teachers a gift card, though.

That list is asking a lot!!  I would pick one day and bring in something for them.  Last year, I gave DS's teacher's each a $25 gift card.  I'll probably do the same this year.

DS's preschool took a collection for each class and then the class coordinator took care of the teacher's gifts (something given each day).

Now DS is in kindergarten.  The PTA sent home a flyer about suggestions for gifts each day.  We will be sending in one gift from my family...probably a gift card...plus a card to express our appreciation.  While she is wonderful and has worked with us on issues with DS, I do not have the time, $$ or creativity to come up with a gift a day.

If the class came together collectively to give gifts each day, I could deal with that.

My daycare sent home a letter today and its day by day gift list is similar to your center. I don't mind participating either but each item on the list can be homemade which is easier for me. I have been trying to think of a way to reach out in a special way to say thank you and this upcoming week seems like the appropriate timing to do so.

This can be done for much less money than OP's list. However, if I were a teacher, I think I would rather parents put all the money into one gift that I would actually like instead of five random things that would all end up being cheap. That's just me, though.

I think I'm going to just combine everything/most things on the list and put together one nice gift basket or something rather than spread it out over the week.  It'll be easier for me to remember 1 day than 5 days worth of stuff (not that I'd do all 5 anyways) but that way I can do something nice for the teachers.  It's not their fault the people in charge are sending this out in such a tacky manner.

Our DC used to do that OP stated but that was based on feedback our DC PTO had gotten from parents in past years.  We have now moved to a fun art project (we send home paper and some ideas for kids to draw their teachers a pictures) and ask for a donation.  All the money received is pooled and then split up equally among the teachers.  We get them a gift card to Target or Marshall's.  Some parents love the PTO organizing something and others dislike it.  We don't require anyone to participate.

For those who got a list, do your kids go to a Primrose school? I got a list form Primrose and I wondered if it was a corporate idea.

I think I will either pick something very small to do each day or just do one and be done with it.

I really like this idea. Some mornings I am more in a hurry than others and can see myself forgetting what the gift of the day is. I'll probably copy you in the basket idea but also bring in a fresh dish on Friday which has been identified as a potluck day.
