Baby Showers...How Many Guests is too many?

I have a large group of friends and of course I'm having a difficult time on the list of who to invite. I don't want to leave some people out, however, I'm not as close to them as I am others. Some of them have already said something to me such as "Don't forget me when it's time for the baby shower, I want to come!" I hadn't even planned on inviting the girls who said that. So of course I now feel awful. Right now my list is at people. I think that's probably too many. I've been to baby showers with as few as 8 and been to showers with as many as 40-45. 

What are your thoughts?
