Dumb question, when did, or did you, notice your baby "drop"?

39.4 and was a 3/4 on Thursday were my OB swept my membranes and said two things- 1) my cervix was still very posterior and 2) she didn't expect to see me before my next appointment on 4/29. It's weird because my baby's head has been very low most of this pregnancy and, assuming it still is from cervical checks and ultrasounds, but here is my dumb question/fear... I feel like the baby is moving up higher? Is that just because he's moving out of room? Just curious, on edge and was and will go as long as possible without any induction, but am confused. :/

  • I noticed it at 37.5. There are some good things to try on spinning babies to encourage them to drop. Lo was still on the high side when I was in labor though. I had excess fluid that wasn't helping that but I still labored and delivered quickly after over a week of prodromal labor. Good luck!

    Adorable!
  • I was stuck in early labour for 2 days before baby dropped. She was posterior so she wasn't fitting right - was you midwife able to confirm baby's position is correct other than not being engaged?

My OB said that his head was down low but mentioned that I was still "very posterior". This was on Thursday and I've been having random contractions (not painful or close/consistent enough to be the real deal). I go back tomorrow, 1 day shy of my 40 week marker, so don't know what to expect. :(
  • At my 38 weeks appt, baby was engaged -1 station, cervix dilated at 1.5 cm and still posterior.

Last thursday, at 40+1 the dr told me that the baby has disengaged, -2, -3 station and because of that I was not even 1 cm dilated. Since it's my 2nd pg, this situation is not uncommun as the baby has more room in the pelvic area.
  • What does "station" mean? Another dumb question, I know. My OB has only told me how dilated I am-was at a 3/4 last Thursday...
  • @Brigie029‌ sorry, when I say posterior I mean the baby herself was facing the wrong direction (back to my back instead of her back to my front), which was keeping her from moving down into my pelvis. It's a pretty common cause of this problem. Check out spinningbabies.com for ways to encourage better positioning - I ended up having to use their techniques to get her to engage when I was already in labour and it wasn't progressing. I did deliver vaginally at 40+5 but labour was very long and painful - I wish I had tried some more stuff earlier on.
  • You can kind of see mine drop from 37w (black shirt) and 38w pictures (gray shirt)

It's where in the pelvis the baby's head is.

I am 40 weeks tomorrow and my baby is at -2 station but not "dropped."

  • I found week 39 very uncomfortable. Then week 40 I think she dropped because I could breath better and had more energy.

Shed been fairly low all pregnancy. The day before labor it felt like she was going to fall out!

I think it's easier to say the baby has dropped in retrospect... Because I kept thinking shed dropped a bunch before that.
