Did anyone buy a motion monitor?

I don't know why I keep going back and forth on this.. Oh yeah, it's because I'm crazy and paranoid. I have a Motorola video monitor that we didn't open yet, but I keep debating on if I want to exchange it for the Angel Care video and motion monitor. Does anyone have the Angel Care and love it? I can't decide if it will help me control my crazy or just make it worse.

Re: Did anyone buy a motion monitor?

  • The angel care monitor gave me peace of mind when DS1 was sleeping in his crib, I too might be a little crazy though. 8-}

  • They're super popular here on the boards, but the only people I know IRL who've had them didn't care for them. They say they're fussy and give out too many false alarms.

I've always been an audio-only person. I figure a baby who needs extra-close monitoring would be sent home with doctor-prescribed monitors, and I don't see the point of video monitors unless the baby is in a completely different part of the house and not easy to get to. Plus I don't need the kind of distraction or possible paranoid obsession video or movement monitors tend to encourage.

  • We have a regular video monitor and then used a Snuza for the first 6 months DD1 was in our room, and then switched to a movement-only Angelcare when she went into her crib (since we already had the video monitor). I love it, it really gave me peace of mind. We still use it at almost 20 months old because it just goes under her mattress so she doesn't know it's there. We have gotten more frequent false alarms now that she is older (because she sleeps with her butt so high in the air or against the far side of the crib) but to me it's still worth it for the extra peace.

  • I haven't used it but on my local board someone was selling it brand spanking new and I paid 40 for it. It'll give us peace of mind for the first bit at least until he's able to move a lot and false alarms start

  • Nah, not for me. I'd end up watching it like a tv because I'd be paranoid. In also convinced that it'll pick up paranormal activity, like my baby flying around the room and seeing things that shouldn't be there. I've watched far too many scary movies though.

I have the AngelCare and I love it. I'm one of those people who would have to check 20x a night to make sure my kids were still breathing. We have a family history of apnea, so it made me much happier. I got a Snuza for DS2 while he sleeps in our room.

  • We have the angel care monitor from when DS was a baby and LOVE it!  We never even bothered with a video monitor or anything else because it gave us peace of mind, we could hear him and god forbid he stopped breathing we had the alarm.  The entire time we used it we only had 2 false alarms when DS got older and moved around more in his sleep.

  • I bought the angle care monitor. I'm a FTM so I don't know how well it works, but all the reviews I read were great. I got mine from bed bath and beyond and used a 20% off coupon. I think I will be the type to check on the baby obsessively so the alarm should help.
  • We have an Angel Care, a Snuza, and a video monitor. I think I might be a bit crazy. The video monitor is really for DS since he can get out of his bed at night. We used the Angel Care for DS and we really liked it. I would recommend it.

  • We have a baby sense movement monitor. We use it in conjunction with the summer infant video monitor. When this baby goes flat in the bassinet we'll take the movement monitor from Bebs crib and use it there and then in the other crib. We have a second camera for the video monitor so we can use it for both kids. I think that would be the downside to the Angel Care one. Is there an option to add a second camera for another child?

  • I have a video monitor and I'm planning on getting a snuza.  I had an angel care monitor for my son and really seriously wouldn't have slept without it.  It did go off twice when he was choking on reflux, so for me worth it.  I'm going with the snuza this go around so I have something that she can also use while in her rock n play.

  • We bought an Angel Care monitor, some say it's overkill, but I wouldn't sleep without it.

  • FTM but I also got a snuza and a motorola video monitor. For me the video is more for when he is napping in his crib and the snuza I can use both for that and while he is sleeping in the PnP next to us at night. I really wanted the extra peace of mind but I am a little crazy paranoid. I don't think I could sleep soundly because I would be checking his breathing all the time. Also I feel like the video monitor will be great for when he is older and trying to get out of the crib, and it has the option to add a second camera if we have another while he is still younger.
  • I had never heard of a Snuza but that might be a good answer for me so I can keep the video monitor I already have and just add the Snuza. I feel like this kid is sending me off the deep end!!!
  • I used the Angelcare monitor for my first daughter, and was very happy with it. I plan on using it again with the new baby when she's born , and also ordered a Snuza for when she's not in her crib.

  • We have an angel care that I used for DS and that thing seriously was the only reason I was able to sleep, ever. I am using it again with this baby. I would really love a Snuza and am pondering buying one since LO won't be in his crib right away and I am paranoid.

I have both a video/audio monitor with night vision and a clip on motion monitor. I'm a FTM so I wanted to be prepared and I am hoping they let us sleep (what little we do) easier.
