Etiquette question

DH is a groomsmen in his best friends wedding next January. Today we got an invitation in the mail to a bridal party BBQ next month. Does this sound like an engagement party? It's hosted by the bride and groom-to-be. Should I stick with the 'don't show up to anything empty handed' rule and bring a bottle of wine? Or does this sound like a money in card / something off the registry type of event?

I'm awful with etiquette nonsense.

Re: Etiquette question

  • Did the invitation mention anything regarding their registry? To be safe, I would definitely show up with bottle of wine on hand, but to cover your bases, is there someone else that was invited that you can ask?

A "bridal party bbq" sounds pretty low key and informal to me, especially if there was no mention of the registry on the invitation.

Is it only the bridal party that got invited? It might just be a nice stress-free get together for those involved. I'd personally go with the bottle of wine and call it a day.
Yes, bridal party ( and dates) only. I'll go with something they like to drink. Thanks!

  • It sounds to me like a bottle of wine should be sufficient. Can you see if your DH can talk to his friend to get some more details on the party?

I think the big tipoff is that it is hosted by the bride and groom. Sounds like fun. Wine is perfect.

This is true. If the bride and groom are hosting, then its doubtful that a registry/formal gifts would be involved.

No registry info. And Everyone else invited is equally as young and clueless as I am, unfortunately haha.

May I suggest a bottle of Fireball Whiskey. Um, yum.

ETA: if it's more of a fun/party vibe vs wine drinking get together.
