Cloth Diapering

Grovia Hybrids

When I was building my stash, I bought a couple of Grovia hybrid shells on Black Friday because I wanted to try out different types of diapers. Now that we are moving from our newborn stash (prefolds/fitted with covers and pockets) to our OS stash, I'm debating on whether or not the Grovia's are worth keeping. Our OS stash is mostly pockets with some prefolds/covers and both DH and I like those types.

If I don't buy the Grovia inserts, are the shells really worth keeping? I don't think we want another type of diaper thrown in the mix. Am I right in understanding that I can use it as a cover over a prefold/fitted except that it can only be used once since it has the mesh?

  • Personally I don't like them. They are very narrow in the crotch which makes them tricky to use as covers. You can probably get more than one change out of them even with the mesh, but they're not "wipe able" so not as reusable as other covers.

  • I just bought a few more to add to my stash. They fit DD1 really well and I can use my gDiaper cloth inserts with them when I run out of the snap-in inserts.

I probably don't get as many re-uses out of them with the gCloths since those don't have a waterproof back like the Grovia ones do, but I still get more uses than with a pocket.

  • You know, I'm not a huge Grovia fan but with your baby being as young as he/she is I think I'd keep them.

1.) They are very trim.  I use them over flats with an origami fold when DS2 is wearing something like tighter jeans, and it's almost as trim as a sposie.

2.) You'll go through weird growth spurts where you might not get a good fit with your favorite covers.  Like right now, I hate all our BG diapers because I can't get a good fit around the legs.  Our Grovia fits really well.

3.) As PPs have said you can re-use them once or twice as long as it's not a really wet diaper or a poopy that gets on the mesh.

4.) I like mine (with the Grovia inserts) as a diaper bag diaper because all I need to bring is 3-4 inserts and a back-up cover and we're good for a whole day out. Much easier to pack than 3-4 pockets!

  • They also make pretty good swim diapers too, if nothing else.
  • Yes - keep them. They are great trim covers for trifolded prefolds or padfolded flats. I wouldn't bother with the Grovia inserts at all - they are expensive, take forever to dry and aren't that absorbent (especially compared to a PF or flat).

  • Ok. Ill keep them around. I did use one with a prefold yesterday and it was pretty trim compared to her other OS diapers.

  • I use to not like them. Then my lo got bigger and they are great!! I'd use the inserts that come with them though.

I say keep them around and see if you like them later on.

Can I hijack the thread for a hot second and ask what size prefolds are best for using in covers for a 1-2yr old?  I just bought a dozen indian cotton prefolds-  Infant sized (4x8x4) to use for DD2 (due in 2 wks) and wondering if I can also use them for DD1 (almost 2).
