Vomiting from crying?xp

DD has always had a sensative gag reflex, but she's thrown up from crying several times lately.
Tonight I was getting her to bed, she wanted to play. I told her that I love her and she needed to go nigh-nigh. DS was in the bath, so I grabbed his pjs, went downstairs, let the dog in, and went back to DD. I sat with her in her rocking chair and she threw up. She isn't sick. She does that blood curdling scream some times when she cries and I think it's making her gag.

Has anyone else had this? I of course freak out thinking something must be wrong with her.

Side note: she has all teeth except her incisors and those are starting to come in, red swollen gums, chewing on her finger... She's 16m.

It happened to a baby (1-2 years old) I used to babysit. I called the mom because I was scared, and she said the baby just got herself worked up sometimes and vomited. She eventually calmed down and was fine. Good luck.

  • Mine used to do that. She has for the most part grown out of it. Doctor said it was nothing some kids just do it.

  • My DS used to do this.  He is 9 years old.   The las time he did it he was 7 almost 8.  I felt he got himself worked up and took the crying really over the top to get himself to throw up for attention.  ::Not suggesting you do this because I have no idea how your child is, Im just sharing:: I talked to a friend who is a therapist and she told me to calmly let him know, when I see him getting to that point that if he threw up, he'd be the one to clean it up.  Never happened again.
  • Yes, my kid would do this on the reg when she was younger. It was bad. It's the main reason she had such crappy sleep habits, because we'd have to go in as soon as she started crying to she'd vomit everywhere. We almost got kicked out of her daycare because she'd cry and throw up almost daily at nap time.

She did eventually grow out of it, with some additional sleep training that involved a lot of cleaning up vomit. Her doctors said it was uncommon, but not unheard of.

  • Oh gosh, I certainly hope she outgrows this.
She helped me clean it last night. She wanted to help, crazy girl likes to clean. Liking cleaning is not a trait she got from me. She almost did it again in the middle of the night, but thankfully didn't.
