Livia Harlow

Last name sounds like "Door." Say it altogether out loud, then share your name wisdom. Nicknames are Liv or Livvy if she so chooses. (Not into Olivia, I can't stop pronouncing it like Oprah does on The Color Purple. Love the origins of Livia, etc too.)

Edit: You brought up a lot of good points I forgot to address in the OP, comments left in the thread. Thanks, name bumpies.

  • Livia is a great name. Harlow is trendy and one letter away from harlot but since it's a mn I cut you a lot more slack. ;)

It's funny because I hadn't heard Harlow (except for the classic movie actress) and am not into trendy so much. :( Maybe I can take solace that its not trendy around me yet? (Who am i kidding, there are a million different names in this city!) DH and I both met working on the performing arts biz but I didn't want to plague her first name with a Hollywood name, so you read my mind on that.

  • I voted no because it makes me feel like you just left out the O in Olivia. It would be cute as a nickname for Olivia, though. What about Lucy, Lila, Lillian, or Lola?

ETA: I like the mn Harlow.

Thanks, Livia is the name of the first lady of Imperial Rome (I'm not into made up names) but I know Olivia is super trendy and this name would draw that conclusion. Thanks!

  • I'm wondering if Harlot will make a comeback and replace slut in 2027! ;-)
(Which is hopefully still too soon for me to worry about boys messing with her, eesh...) I guess I'm not super concerned because it's a middle name...yet. Gotta keep thinking about the trendy thing though...

    This.
  • I actually like Harlow for a mn. Not a fan of Livia..reminds me of liver. Or Libya.

I definitely want a different vibe if the original vibe is "cutesy", "princessy" or "frilly" in any way, if that helps.

  • Love Livia/Liv/Livvie!
    Hate Harlow with a passion.
  • Harlow is NMS, but Livia is awesome. Go read or watch I, Claudius, haters.

  • I'm part of the "sounds like Olivia without the O" crowd. Like a nickname for Olivia. I would assume her name was actually Olivia and that you just called her Livia or Liv.

  • I voted NMS. I echo the thoughts of PP's that it just seems like you left off the O for Olivia. I don't doubt that it's a real name, but something about it just doesn't do it for me.

  • Livy or Livie is really popular here- I have two friends who recently named their babies that as their full name- Olivia is also really popular here. I don't hate it for someone else's kid but not my style. I do like "Liv" as a first name:)
  • It feels very trendy to me. Yes, I know Livia is a legit name but it's used the same way that people who like Madison but wanted a fresh sound use Addison. Harlow is all Nicole Richie to me. I don't see any appeal.
I agree with this. I mean, I like it and that it's a legit name but I think it will just come across like trying to ride the Olivia trend and yet be "different."
I agree that Harlow sounds trendy and too close to Harlot.

  • Love Harlow, didn't even think about Harlot. But then again, I have, on my list of potential girl names for future babies, "Jezebel."

ETA: Although since you said your last name sounds like "door" now i can't stop thinking of hollow doors, the cheapest of all doors. Doesn't matter at all though unless your name sounds exactly, to the letter, like "Door" though.

You are so one of my favorites.

  • I love the name. I disagree on the whole "Harlow is too much like Harlot" thing... they are only one letter off yes, but the actual sounds of the names are different... I think its pretty :)
  • I love Livia.....I think is is classic & beautiful. As far as the combo....I can't decide if I like it or not.

  • I adore Livia. I Harlow is very much NMS. I feel like together they do sound really frilly/trendy/Hollywood baby name. Go for Livia with something else in the MN spot.

  • Voted NMS... Agree with PPs that there's something about Livia I'm not a fan of. Love Harlow in the MN spot.

    Also loving the suggestion

  • Livia is pretty. Harlow definitely makes the whole thing sound cutesy and trendy. I feel like it needs a classic middle name.
