Trouble TTC

Advice on switching REs ***losses mentioned***

Hello!  Happy Saturday!   I just found out that my very awesome RE just decided to stop accepting my insurance.  While my insurance offers zero IVF coverage, It does offer some coverage for IUIs and I really need to use what coverage I have.  For that reason, I unfortunately need to switch REs (I have an appointment lined up for the first week of May with the new RE).   I just started working with my current  RE in January, and after all the tests, did one Clomid/ IUI last month (BFN).  I had planned to do two more clomid/ IUIs with her before moving to IVF. Obviously, switching REs is a giant bummer and I'm worried that I will end up wasting cycles as I make the transition.  I am 38 and have been on a pretty extensive TTC journey, including two losses over four years (see siggy).   Anyway, here's my question:  for those who have switched REs, how much testing did your new RE need to repeat?  (I had all the usual tests done in January, my tubes are clear, my ute has been cleared of polyps (operative hysteroscopy in Jan.), DH had an SA and is good, and I will get my records. Oh, also, my thyroid is now at a good level thanks to Synthroid, which I started last cycle. Also, in case you are mobile, and can't see siggy, I have PCOS.)  How soon after switching REs were you off and running on new medicated cycles? How much delay did you experience? I totally understand that all REs are different, but any info you have as far as your own experience is helpful.  After investing four months of testing and procedures  with the first RE, I'm eager not to repeat tests if possible, especially since I'm AMA.   Thanks so much to all you awesome and supportive ladies.  I couldn't be on this journey without you.  Hugs to anyone who needs them today.  X

Re: Advice on switching REs ***losses mentioned***

  • Since you had testing done recently, you shouldn't have to do those tests again. This should speed things up. I sought the opinion of a 2nd RE about 1 year after seeing my first one. He wanted my husband to do another SA which we scheduled quickly. He also wanted to do CD3 blood work and an ultrasound. I could probably start treatment when AF arrives, any day now, but I still don't feel ready to end this break.
I know every RE is different but I don't see there being much time before you are off and running. My advice to you though is to choose a RE very wisely. Since you are already anticipating IVF, take your time to choose the right Dr. Check out the SART statistics of the doctor's in your area and look into costs/grants/payment plans now. Also, get copies of all the tests you had done so you can bring them to the new RE. Good luck at your appointment!

  • Get all of your testing info to them asap and ask if the would want a repeat of anything. But from what I've heard from most others, as long as your tests have been within a year, aside from cd3 (which they could do and still cycle) they shouldn't need a repeat of anything.

I switched RE's for IVF and things moved really quick. I mailed my medical records from my old RE before my consult. I only had to redo cd3 bloodwork. I also had to have a saline sono and my amh and other bloodwork for ivf prep. March 10th was my consult with the new RE and my IVF cycle started on April 6th. Good luck!

  • I had all of my test results that my ob/gyn did faxed over to my R/E. He accepted all of that but of course filled in the blanks with tests that my ob/gyn didn't but should have done! You should be able to go right into treatments with your new RE! Just tell them you are ready to go and don't want to waste anytime because of the change/transition! My RE let me jump right into another Clomid cycle the same month I went to him! Good luck!

  • Thanks ladies!  I'll update after my new appointment, just so any future lurkers can see what I needed or didn't need to repeat.   I really appreciate hearing about each of your experiences - made me feel a lot better about the transition!  Thank you! :)
