Yet another confusing ultrasound

I'm 8 weeks today and I had another ultrasound. Baby is measuring behind at 7weeks 1day with a hr of 136. The hr has gained the daily average of 3.3 beats per day; but it's well below the average hr at 8 weeks of 150-180 but average for 7w1d

My RE said that this can be caused by 2 scenarios:

1. Impending m/c

Or the more likely (according to my RE)

2. Confined placental mosaicism.

Apparently according to my RE in the early stages of implantation chromosomally abnormal cells are often shed into the placenta and the normal cells then continue to multiply to yield a healthy embryo that is a little behind schedule and leaves the abnormal chromosomes in the placenta.

So I googled this phenomenon and read that it only accounts for about 2% of positive CVS results that had subsequent negative amnio results.

Needless to say I'm still feeling lost and have yet been able to find the positives in this situation. My RE thinks I'm a pro at finding the negatives....... But really what else am I supposed to think?

I just want to be happy about this pregnancy

I understand if it is #1 but what does it mean if it is#2? quite confusing.

So sorry you are going through this. If I understand correctly, if it is option #2, then things are likely to go well. Is that right? The uncertainty must be terrible.

I'm so sorry you didn't get more comfort at your ultrasound. I think it sounds good that baby's hr is on track for where he/she is measuring. Hopefully that trend will continue!!

I know all about the so called "lightening strike" diagnosis where the chances are soooo slim, and hope that if the situation is #2, that it doesn't necessarily mean a negative outcome.

Apparently #2 doesn't ALWAYS mean something negative...... But it can. If let's say the trisomic rescue happened on the 21,13, or 18 chromosome the results are supposedly not so great... If it happened on any other chromosomes again not so great.... Or things could turn out fine. I've read positive info and some more negative. Basically it's a mixed bag and we don't know what to expect except it could be really bad or really ok....

I'm stuck in limbo and google just gives me more things to fret over.
Another u/s next Friday.

Sorry you are going through all of this. Really, though, your baby's heart rate is increasing! That is a really good sign! I would definitely look at that as a positive. It is still really early and, while 136 may seem far away from the average 150, it's really only a few days behind.

seriously..... i'm sorry you have to continue to be in such limbo. totally unfair. its hard not to be worried, but right now, you are pregnant, and have a LO inside you with a little heart thats beating away and hopefully gets stronger and stronger. *hugs* hope this week passes quickly for you and you can finally get some NORMAL news for once.

Stay strong.  Your little one has put up such a fight so far.  Your little one still has a strong heartbeat.  I can't image how difficult this must be for you, but try to stay positive.  I'm a firm believer in the power of positive thinking.

Thanks for the update. Fingers and toes crossed for you and baby. I can't imagine how unbelievably stressful this is for you! Try to think positive (even though I'm SURE it's hard) and not give up. Your little one hasn't and is hanging on strong, there must be a reason for this.

Google can be extremely helpful or extremely depressing! I would try to stop with the googling for now and try to stay positive and healthy and see what happens next week. While you're measuring a week behind, it's got to be a good sign that the heartbeat is increasing and on track with the measurements. 

I apologize if this comes out offensive, I don't mean it to be, BUT I was freaking out at one point over all of the negative outcomes that I read online and was telling my RE how nervous I was because of what I was reading online and my RE said, "that's because the people with positive outcomes are too busy taking care of their babies to write about it on a forum." That was about a year ago, but I always think about that before I start freaking out and, for me, it's a comforting thought.

Hang in there.  Long walk seem to do the trick for me when I need to take a break from Dr.Google.

Think positive thoughts and babies.....I know it sound silly but it always help to reduce stress but thinking positive.

Uuuugh I'm so sorry that you can seem to get a definitive ultrasound.  Hang in there!  I can't imagine how frustrated and lost your must feel.  My FX super tight that this embryo is just being stubborn and will become your take home baby!

I am so sorry that you can't just get a straight answer! Just remember that today you are pregnant. Dr. Google does not have all of the answers and we don't get to have a crystal ball just love your baby right now and you have lots of T&Ps coming your way!
