Unisom & B6 for INTENSE nausea?

Nausea/vomiting is getting worse and worse every day. I dry heave/vomit for at least an hour every morning. Then the waves of nausea continue all f-ing day long - relieved only by stuffing my face with bagels. Goodness gracious. I work as a nurse and sit like a lump on a log all they and I think they are starting to hate me because they have no idea!

Anyways called OB nurse this morning. I want Zofran! I have never been tough and able to deal with these kinds of things "au natural". I am a weakling. She first recommended 1/2 Unisom with B6 up to three times a day. Has this worked for anyone? Is this going to make me so drowsy I will not be able to function? She did say I could take the leftover Zofran that I have from being sick recently..

Thanks!

Re: Unisom & B6 for INTENSE nausea?

  • Zofran doesn't work for me and I'm allergic to Phenergan, so I pretty much had to suffer through my last pregnancy. The morning sickness is just as bad this time around, but yesterday my OB prescribed Diclegis, which is basically a mix of Unisom and B6. It's supposed to be more preventative and you take it every evening, whether you feel sick or not. A lot of pharmacies don't carry it, so it's taken me a day to find one that will fill it for me. I will hopefully be able to start taking it tonight. Fingers crossed it works!!

  • I'm doing 1/2 unisom and b6 and seeing a big difference. It's not gone, but I'm able to function. The first day I was exhausted but after a few days of it I'm doing better. I do 1/2 unisom and 100mg of a time released b6 in the morning and then just 1/2 unisom at night.

  • That's what was recommended to me this time. I guess it's a category B where Zofran is category C.

Last night my nausea was so bad I thought I was dying and I took a few gulps if emetrol with the unisom and b6. It did help, took about an hour to get to sleep but I felt better this morning.

It never worked for me. The only thing that kind of worked was Zofran.

HAHA, I am seriously eating my words, this worked for me all day yesterday, but last night I got so sick I thought I was going to die and this morning I hardly made it to work.  Ugh.  Well, I tried.

  • I'm taking 50 mg B6 in the morning and late afternoon for my nausea ... I think it helps quite a bit. I haven't tried Unisom, but I will if it comes back. I'm a nurse too - I've been sitting on my ass since I found out since I'm so exhausted and ended up just telling everyone after a day of really bad dry heaves last week. So far everyone's been very nice about it. Hang in there!

  • With my first I took half a unisom, b 12, and folic acid instead of my prenatals during the 1st tri only. I only took it once a day and felt tired but wasn't sure if it was the unisom or just pregnancy fatigue. The nausea subsided a lot though and I stopped vomiting every day. Good luck to you!

  • Zofran is the only thing that worked for me. And by worked I mean puke 6 times a day instead of 20. :(

  • My nausea/vomiting is officially out of control and significantly interfering with my life. I'm getting the OTC stuff today and in praying it works. I'm all kinds of miserable.

:-S I hope it brings you some relief!!

I've had better luck since I switched my prenatals to the gummies, if that's a factor for anyone. I was taking the same vitamins I took before I got pregnant, but suddenly they made me feel terrible at week 6.

  • Taking B6. Can't tell how much it works but some days are better than others. Also been using portable fan, painters masks, and swimming nose plugs to help block smells. Recently figures out Vaseline in nostrils trick too!

  • I started this regimen on Sunday morning after a simply tortuous Saturday, and I have to say it was the first day in a week that I was able to eat more than a banana. Finally!! I wasn't able to stomach and entire meal or anything, but was at least able to get some plain pasta down and KEEP it down. Wish I didn't have to take anything, but I'm glad that this is working at least. Hopefully I won't keep losing weight at a rapid weight now.

  • After a bad week of vomiting about 5 times a day, I broke down and took my Zofran. I took one last night about 1 hour before dinner and was able to keep dinner down, and sleep through the night. Today, I took one before getting out of bed, and another just before lunch and have kept all my food down, but am having a bit of nausea again. I honestly can't decide whether I like the feeling I get from Zofran better than just... vomiting and being done with it. The Zofran makes me feel kind of groggy and detached. Do you guys have any recommendations on when to take it, and at what point it might be OK to stop? My Dr said that week 8 is the worst, and by week 9-13, things get better. My first pregnancy was NOT like this.
