My daughter is getting her molars and it seems to bringing out a rash. What is the best diaper rash cream to use? She's 17 months & I have been lucky she hasn't had one to date.
Ditto to Boudreaux's Butt paste (we use the extra strength in the red tube). I also use aquaphor more as a preventative barrier if he doesn't have a rash yet, but has been extra poopy/diarrhea-y. I also love aquaphor to prevent chopping on his face for snotty nose/drooling.
Boudreaux's Butt paste is what has worked best for us.
If it's really bad you can give her a little bit of no diaper/pants time too. We did that for DD when she had a pretty bad rash, and it was worth cleaning up the one or two accidents she had. (although it could have gone much worse lol)
Preventatively we use coconut oil. Even use that for a mild rash. But for a teething/ drool rash, I'd use Butt Paste or Say Yes To Baby Carrots diaper rash cream.
How bad is the rash? When DD was on antibiotic for strep she got the WORST rash ever - her entire diaper area was red and it almost looked like swollen hives that started to crack and bleed - all within 2 diaper changes, it was so fast. The pedi had us mix 3 parts lotrimin with 1 part hydrocortisone and that cleared it up within a day or 2.
Normally we use desitin or aquaphor and really put a thick layer. You should also try to air it out as much as possible. We let DD run around naked for a few minutes after a few diaper changes and especially after her bath to make sure everything gets nice and dry.
Anything with 40% zinc oxide (I prefer Bordeaux's Butt Paste, but I've had good luck with anything that has that level of zinc). Also, baking soda baths and naked time to air things out!
I second the baking soda baths! LO uses the inflatable ducky tub, so we do two heaping tablespoons of baking soda in a very warm shallow bath and let her butt soak for a while. If the rash is bad, you can do this several times a day.

My son has been on antibiotics a few times which led to diaper rash and I found petroleum jelly and cornstarch to work the best. A lot of the zinc oxide creams burned when applied to an already open rash. And I totally agree with leaving the diaper off as a huge help!
