How did labor come on?

This may be stupid but I no longer care...

I'm not having any really painful contractions, just occasional BH and even though I lost my MP a couple of weeks ago and am dilated to 2+ it doesn't FEEL like anything is happening.

My question is, did you have contractions for hours, days, or weeks before you went into labor or did it come on suddenly?? I'm starting to fear it is never going to happen.

Re: How did labor come on?

  • With DS I didn't have any contractions or BH that I could feel. I wasn't dilated or effaced at 41 weeks so I was induced.

My water broke at 35 weeks. No contractions aside from a few BH here and there, so I was induced.
  • I picked SS because contractions started the day before I went into labor, but I didn't know that they were contractions at the time. I was expecting them to feel differently.

Had our first baby, Samuel Robert, on April 17, 2014!

  • I started having contractions I couldn't ignore on Sunday and gave birth on Tuesday.
  • My water.. Broke, but not fully so I thought I had peed myself a little. After a few minutes I had that same sensation and had no contractions at that point. After an hour I started feeling crampy, so I laid down and timed the next few "cramps" and they were 2 minutes apart. I had her 6 hours after that.
  • I had irregular contractions for at least a week, then regular, timeable contractions for 2 days before I was in active labour
  • With my DD I had a full 6 hours of contractions before I went into labor, with my DS I woke up with intense contractions
  • I started having contractions Sunday evening. At my appt the next day, I was dilated to a 3 and the doc said I could "go" anytime. Not really believing her... I still went to my baby shower that evening where my water broke. The 2 things you always hear- it won't break in public and it doesn't feel like a gush- turned out to be both be wrong. Within 25 minutes of my water breaking, I had contractions 6-7 minutes apart but thank goodness by then we were on our way to the hospital.

  • Was at 3cm and 100% for a week, feeling nothing.

Then Bam. Water broke, contractions kicked in ASAP and I was rolled into the hospital at 7cm 3 hours later. Good times.

  • With my first, water broke as first sign of labour and contractions started about 2-3 hours later. This time I had early labour contractions for about 12 hours before active labour began.

  • Prodromal labour since 36 weeks. Labour started with contractions 5 min apart but as labour progressed contractions became irregular ranging from 2 to 13 min apart. HBAC-->RCS :(
  • It can really go either way. With my first I went from high and tight and 41 weeks to my first contraction at 41+2 to baby 18 hours later. With this one I've been having strong contractions for days, and regularly for almost 24 hours now, but still 8-12 minutes apart. You never know!

  • Contractions for two weeks, lost mucus plug at 230am, water broke at 330am, contractions intensified and came every two minutes by 5am. Baby boy in my arms at 10:50am.

With my first my water broke and 12 hours later with no contractions I agreed to Pitocin. Twelve hours later he was born.

  • I've been having contractions for weeks (not painful but not Braxton hicks) and moved into active and painful labor around 5pm he was born at 1:31am dr broke my water around 10:30 pm
  • Start to finish, I was 6:45. I woke with contractions that got stronger over several hours. In the last hour my water broke, I lost my MP and I pushed her out. Everything was very fast.
  • I've had BH regularly for months with some bouts of regular, timeable, painful contractions that werent changing my cervix at 25 and 33 weeks. I had prodromal labor off and on since 37 wks (17P wore off then), with increasing legnth/severity the 5 days before going into labor. That morning I had more painful contractions that were very irregular, had membranes swept, ctx actually stopped for several hours then kicked into gear 5 hours later and were more painful but irregular for 5 hours, became consistently under 5 mins 10 hours before I gave birth.

  • I voted special snowflake because I had contractions that were definitely more than just BH for several days.. They would get stronger then die out. One night.. They got to 6 min apart then died out. Two hours later my water broke.
  • I voted "I was imduced" for this PG, but with DS I had no signs labor was coming. My contractions just started out of nowhere and I had him 11 hours later. I had not lost my MP ahead of time or had any other signs.

  • SS- I had contractions starting week 34- ptl scare, started procardia etc.... Then, when it was really time to go, my way broke but no contractions. Had to be induced. Go figure.

I had contractions starting in the evening the Friday before he was born(born early Sunday morning). I was only 1cm when I went in after about 9 hours if contractions. Bc I was oberdue, they induced me/sped up the process with oxytocin.
  • I had contraction on and off for a week. The day I went into labor though I just felt intense pressure on my bladder, and felt like I had to pee every five minutes. Since I was already at a hospital I was going to ask if they thought I might have a bladder infection! It was so weird. I figured out later that they were contractions. I wouldn't worry about feeling if it were going to happen soon, that means nothing. Your not supposed to just know, it's different for everyone.

  • I chose SS because I had a pretty good idea that something was up because I was having crazy watery discharge for two days before but no contractions.  Then, in the morning that I delivered, labor started straight away.

  • only BH off and on for a few days before labor. Once the real deal kicked in it was start to finish.

  • Lost my mucous plug, 2 hrs later back was hurting, bad. I went to the bathroom and was still passing mucous plug (I think) and my back was hurting bad still. So I walked around and did stuff around the house, drank tons of water, laid down, nothing would get the pain to subside. So I downloaded an app and tried to start timing the contractions...3-5 min apart. I was also leaking, I had a panty liner on and had to switch to a pad. I called L&D, and they said pack your bags and come in. As they were checking me in contractions were a solid min apart, and they checked me...water gushed & I was 3.5 cm already!

Any ways...my point...I lost MP around 12:30 am...googled it...and it said labor can commence hours, days or weeks post loss of MP....so I said well fuck and wnt to sleep....2.5 hrs later it was baby time!
