How long is DH or SO taking off if at all?

Re: How long is DH or SO taking off if at all?

  • It honestly depends on when I go into labor - he will be with me the whole time I'm in the hospital, and then maybe a couple days. He gets 3 days weekends so I know he will be able to be around.

  • DH is taking his week of vacation, and saved up to take a second week off. I think he's bummed he won't get more time with LO once he arrives.
  • DH is taking two weeks off. I told him he could probably go into work while I'm in the hospital but he's pretty insistent on not going anywhere. I'm forcing him to go home at night to keep the dog's routine as normal as possible before DD comes home!
  • My hubs is taking two weeks off when I get my c-section and then we are working out his FMLA for when I go back so we can extend the time before the LO has to start daycare to September.
  • My husband is taking 1.5 weeks when baby girl arrives, and then going back to work for 3 weeks, then taking his 2 weeks of paternity leave.

    Lucky - DH's firm doesn't give paternity leave. :/
  • DH is staying at the hospital with me during the day, but says he's going to sleep at home.
He is using a week of his vacation from work (he also gets 2 extra days for "paternal leave"), then he is working 1/2 days the second week.

  • My DH is self-employed so he probably won't take a lot of time off. I'm sure he'll be with me the first week or so and then we will play it by ear. Luckily, we have all 4 grandparents within 20 minutes of us and I expect I'll have plenty of help. I am a little nervous because he is typically out of town once a week at the company he's helping, but we'll also play that by ear. He might be able to do day trips for a little while.

  • My husband will be taking 7 weeks off (one week vacation, and 6 weeks "bonding time" at partial pay).
He will also spend both nights (or as many as we need) in the hospital with me. They have an extra cot for him to sleep in there.

  • I think he took a week last time including the hospital day. Which started on a Wednesday so he went back to work the next Thursday. But MIL came and stayed with us for another week so I had help, she'll be doing the same this time.
He then took six weeks of family leave after my maternity leave ended. He'll be doing that again.

DH was allowed a week, honestly I wish he would have worked earlier this week and started his leave yesterday when we came home. I gave birth Saturday but didn't get released from the hospital until yesterday (Wednesday) so now he has to go back to work this upcoming Monday and I feel like it was to short:(. My mom is going to work half days next week to help me out because I had a c section and still have a bunch of restrictions.
  • Due to medical stuff, my DH is only allowed to take 2 days--which have to be unpaid. It is what it is...would I like more yes, but there is just nothing we can do about it.

DH will probably only get 2 days.  It really sucks. Baby might not even be there between when labour starts and when he has to go back to work, depending on how long labour is.

    Here's hoping it's joined to a weekend...

He will have the summer off.

  • We just finished this convo!

Hubby has 2 weeks paid, but I think only taking one week would be best and leaving some days for later.
  • My husband is taking nearly a month off. We live in Japan and are still pretty new to the area. We don't know many people and our families can't afford to come here. So he will be my only help. If I have a c-section again, he plans on taking more time off if I need him to.
  • DH started new job in Jan and has only earned like 2 days PTO so far, so he has enough for the hospital stay and then he has to go back to work (3rd shift at the casino). Boo hiss.

  • My husband gets 12 weeks of paid FMLA. I'm sure we are in the minority. He put 8 weeks on the paperwork, but plans to take less because his work frowns upon it since higher ups didn't get it(it's a newer policy).
He also excepted a promotion that is supposed to start in 2weeks(figures!) so he won't take as much if the position starts then. I'm going to guess and say he'll be out 3weeks if that happens.

He also plans to sleep at the hospital and stay there the whole time unless he runs home to grab something. We're only ten minutes away.
  • My husband took off 1 week when my son was born. It kind of sucked because I was induced on Monday, had him Wednesday, and was discharged Friday. I had no home help because he was back to work on Monday. He will likely only take a week this time as well due to the nature of his job. He could take more but he doesn't get paid if he isn't there.
  • We're lucky that DH is in academics and (other than a few meetings here and there) will be able to be off for most of the summer. LO is due about 2 weeks after his term ends. He has way more time off than I do -- I could take 12 weeks FMLA but it's really frowned upon, and I have only about 2 weeks PTO. I'll probably take 6-8 weeks and then go back.
  • DH does temp legal work, so he only gets unpaid time off.  He'll probably take 2 weeks. We don't have any family around.

  • He owes his own business so he will probably try to take a week or two off once she arrives but really that means he will work from home or the hospital remotely. He is planning on staying with me at the hospital but if our little guy wants to go home with daddy instead of staying with His grandparents he will probably take him home. I'm fine either way and my parents and sister will be around so if he has to work a little we will will have help.

  • DH is taking 2 weeks even though he is entitled to more bc of his new job he doesn't want to push it...he has Memorial Day off and he's taking a week off at the end of June. He will stay with me at the hospital the whole time I'm there which since we have midwife could be only a few hours as there is a 2 h minimum and we don't plan on staying the whole 24 h.

  • He is only taking 1 week off, when I go into labor. Then, my mom will take some time off after that for a few random days to help out. Other than that, I'll be flying solo!

  • I am very lucky in that my hubby gets 4 weeks off.  We are hoping we might also be able to add a few days of vacation to that as well....  We don't have immediate family within an hour of where we live, so I am really thankful he'll be home with me when I get home from the hospital.
