I don't mind popcorn ceilings and I like mine. I don't understand all the house shows where they flip out about them.
I totally agree! Unfortunately, we bought a smoker's house, so all the popcorn ceilings had to be taken down to help get rid of the stench. The ceiling under all the fans, light fixtures, etc. was ORANGE. It was not a home improvement project I would wish on my worst enemy.
Might as well jump in with both feet here... 2nd post ever! My UO is I hate it when people name their kids something normal but spell it in some batshit crazy way, like for example naming a little boy Jackson but spelling it Jaxyn or something like that, that nobody will EVER spell right. (Not picking on that name in particular, just an example)

Lol, this was one last week too. I spelled my DDs name differently but I don't care if people judge I love it and that is all that matters!

Dammit here goes the newbie bringing up old posts! Shit, I have to try to remember things better - I call baby brain. And anyway I'm not judging people for spelling names differently, it's your kid and your prerogative, I'm just a bit of a grammar/spelling etc. nerd.

Its no biggie, lol!! There was no arguing about it last week either and everyone is entitled to their opinion! That said...I'm a total hypocrite with names. I have always disliked names spelt differently but then I did it to my daughter. For the record though, I didn't massacre the name. Just left out an E that doesn't change the sound of the name.

Agreed! What I don't get is why people pick a name that's in the top 5 for like the last 10 years and then purposely misspell it. Unless it's got some reason for being like that (because it's a family name) I'd avoid choosing anything in the top 10-20 even. Maybe it's odd to me because I grew up with a name that was #1 for the 5 years around when I was born and there have always been a bunch of other girls with my name either at school or work.

You should check out the Baby Names board. You'll love it! :-)

Oh girl. Where I teach I have parents picking names that literally break the rules of both the English language and basic phonics. It's as if the parent is making up their own language.

I saw one on the Baby Names board during my first pregnancy, the woman actually named her little girl La-A. Pronounced Ladasha. I thought I was going to have a stroke.

I think I was around for this. I am pretty sure it made its way around every board.
So I'm late on the topic (screens have been increasing my nausea last couple of days) but I believe I have valuable insight. Know quite a few trans folks, mostly f to m but my aunt (2nd cousin) is m to f. Just like in many things being trans varies by person. One friend only responded to his chosen male name and male pronouns since he was about 5. Another didn't realize he was trans until he was in his 20's. Some parents report their children identifying as the opposite gender at the age of 3. Children often dress and pretend to be the opposite gender (my brother and I both did, we're both gay but not trans), but being trans is not just about dressing up or "acting like" the other gender, it's the feeling that you are the opposite gender. Also, it's not about sex, it's about identity. Kids don't need to be sexual to know who they are.
Trans kids have been in the media more lately. One of the interesting topics is if, how, and when to begin hormones. Here is an interview with by Barbara Walters with an 11 year old girl named Jazz. https://abcnews.go.com/2020/video/transgender-11-listening-jazz-18260857. Also, if there are any NPR/PRI fans, This American Life has a nice segment about two trans girls in an episode called "somewhere out there"
I wish us all happy healthy kids!!
Interesting news note: India just legalized a "third gender" eliminating the gender binary
I am a firm believer that gender and sex do not equal the same thing. Most of the time the outcome of the two are the same, but sometimes not. Don't get me wrong my son wears blue and doesn't wear pink, but if one day he wants to I am all for it. Dh and I don't share the same views on this topic (but we will cross that bridge if it comes) I think this lady has a really neat idea but definitely out there. https://abcnews.go.com/Health/genderless-baby-controversy-mom-defends-choice-reveal-sex/story?id=13718047
Sorry, late to post but I've been working/traveling lately so I haven't had time to be up here. I live in the south where we've been shut down waaayy to much due to snow. I'm a teacher and we have missed 11 days due to snow. It's been crazy. And people get bored being stuck at home that much and hence it seems we now have a crop of baby boomer "snow babies" on the way. Which means I have a ton of friends who are also pregnant. Which also means I've seen a ton of pee stick pics on fb. I'm sorry that's gross. Yay for being preggers but I don't want to find out by seeing something you pissed on. Just my 2 cents. You can find a better way.

I totally agree. Hate the pee stick pics! Like, really? It's just gross.
