More Thoren updates.

First: the bug that was messing with his tummy worked itself out and he is 100% again, which is wonderful. It is so hard when he feels like crap and there's not much i can do for him.

Second he had his ECI eval today and qualifies for the program, so we will be starting therapy next week. He is 26% (4 months) behind on language development. So there is something there, but they said it could just be that he is more focused on motor development right now, but that starting speech therapy is the best way to get him going. So that is the plan. Thank you all for continuing to keep me sane through this. I am.. Exhausted..

Good. So glad it was a quick bug and he is feeling better. I agree with PP, sounds like you are moving in the right direction and hopefully working with him and focusing on speech therapy will get him caught up. (((hugs))) Take care of yourself too Momma! You are important too!

My nephew was like that. His older brother had been very verbal and he was not. He started speech therapy and he had some mirror issues with his mouth and had also been focused on walking. The therapy helped him tremendously and he caught up. You are doing the right thing mama, he is so blessed to have you. :-)

Oh, good.  Good for you for getting through this.  By the time he is in kindergarten, four months behind is nothing, especially since you caught it early and are taking action.   Go Thoren!

Great news! He is so lucky to have you! I have had so many students whose parents are in denial about their child possibly needing further services, and they are only severely hurting their child.

@emja0214 That is how my parents are. They refuse to acknowledge when there is a problem. I had to wait until i was married with my own health insurance to be treated for depression and an anxiety disorder because they refused to believe there was something wrong. Like it was a personal affront to them. It was "all in my head" and i needed to just "calm down". As a result, i am extremely proactive about making sure that my family gets the care we need before a problem turns into something life altering.

Im glad to hear he's feeling better. He is so lucky to have you as his mama. I believe ny BILs little boy has a speach delay as he is 18months old and only says ball and he used to say mama. The point is he seems to be regressing and his parents refuse to get him in therapy.

I apologize for being so out of the loop, but my son doesn't talk at all and your post brought up questions.

My DS babbles baby talk, mimics sounds like coughing, and demonstrates an understanding of language (can point to things we ask about (the fish, doggie, food he wants) and sign 'milk' when he's hungry) so his pedi has told me that she is not concerned. He was an early walker (9.5 months) and is a huge runner and climber now....but still no words.

I've been so out of the loop lately with this board that I was surprised at how many words some babies have, but trusted my pedi to tell me if I needed to be concerned. Should I get a second opinion or wait until 18 months like my pedi suggested... she thinks he'll have a giant language boom soon. I don't want him to fall behind in any way.

I admire your strength with all that you've been going through. Like PPs have said, Thoren is lucky to have such a great mama.

@tromgirl your kiddo is way ahead of Thoren. He does not point, or look where we point, he doesn't respond to his name, or sign (not that we have tried, but that is going to be part of his therapy). He babbles and says mama, and dada, but thats it. He knows his name, and he understands a few things, i think, but listening to them is another matter.

Glad to hear he's doing better! If you have any questions about therapy or anything else your little guy is going through, the Special Needs board is an amazing place with some wonderful women. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I remember you posting something a while ago (I've been off this board for a few weeks) about concerns about autism. There are a lot of mamas on the board with autistic kiddos who I'm sure will be super helpful. Good luck with everything!
