Baby Names

Thoughts on Reid?

We don't share the name irl with anyone till the baby is born so wanted to get some feedback from you ladies. We already have a Sydney and now we need a name for baby boy. What do you think of Reid? I also really like Henry but I'm afraid it's too popular. Any other suggestions? Our last name ends with an ''er" and the middle name is a family name ending with "n" so that eliminates a lot of names. I'm stuck so any input is appreciated!!

Re: Thoughts on Reid?

  • Henry is my fave boy name, despite popularity.

Reid is just OK for me.

  • This is my favorite boy name right now. I would love to use it if we have another boy, but my DH doesn't like surnames. Felix and Abram/Bram are two other names I really like that might meet your criteria.

  • Reid is really nice, and I agree with PP that it is not to little kid cutesy or adult-sounding.

  • I like Reid (although I prefer the Reed spelling.)

Is Syndey a son or a daughter? If it is a girl, I wouldn't use something as classic as Henry for a son, I think Reid is a better complement to her name style.

  • Thanks for all the suggestions! I will add Graham and Samuel to the list. I love the name Miles too but a really good friend already has a little Miles. Sydney is our dd. I hadn't thought about how a more classic name may not match as well. That is a good point. DH got to pick dd's name. I tried to talk him into something a little more traditional but I was out voted. I get to pick this time though :)
  • I like Reid, but like Henry it is just insanely popular with my friends right now.

Between Henry, Reid, and William it would be difficult for me to find any friends who didn't use one of those names either as the first or middle. And I know three William Henrys.

I like these names (well, I like Reid and William, Henry is NMS) but they are almost becoming eye roll worthy because of how often they appear these days.  Almost makes me miss Aiden. ;)

  • I have a Reid so obviously I love it. My Reid's middle name is also a family name ending in n and I love how it sounds. Henry was on our short list with DS1 and DS2, it is a family name for me but the popularity factor (both with friends and within the family) kept me from going for it either time. I saw you also mention Graham - that was our choice for this baby if we were having a boy, so I love it as well! Samuel is just ok for me, but I'm a Samantha so I wasn't interested in going for a junior style name. ;)

  • LOVE Reid. It was always on my list but is out since it was my husbands birth last name.
Every Reid I know IRL is awesome and the youngest is 18.

Im so over Henry. No clue what it ranks but it seems to be every where.
Reid is a great strong name for a child and man.

I have a Reed so I obviously think it's a great name. My Reed's middle name ends in "en" and it flows extremely well. The Reed/Reid spelling comes down to personal preference. Reed is the original according to BTN but Reid is more common. Reed is a family name so that was the reason for our spelling.
