RNP to PNP = NIGHTMARE!!! Advice Please!!!

I am really wishing I wouldn't have ever put DS in the RNP.  It seemed like a great idea 4 weeks ago, but it's turned out to bite me.  I am so ready for him to move to his own room, so I decided to transition him to the PNP before moving to the crib at night.  It has been terrible.  He doesn't sleep long at all and I end up moving him to the RNP so that he'll go longer stretches.  Any advice to make this easier would be great!

  • Start with naps.

  • You could try a rolled up hand towel under the PNP mattress for a small incline since he's used to the angle of the RNP. I agree about starting with naps.

We're doing the same thing right now but we just dove into putting her down at night. Hope it gets better for you!

  • I have been having him take naps in his crib/PNP the past few days, its just that he won't sleep very long there.  Also, he hates his crib all together unless he is on his stomach (I know...big no no...but I'm desperate)!

  • I second the naps. We put him in the crib for a little each day.

What I also found helps is inclining the bed. My son has acid reflux so that's why the RNP was a godsend. He's never liked the flat surfaces. I put towels under one side of the crib mattress to make that side about 3-4" higher. He's been sleeping in the crib the last three nights.
  • I haven't even thought about raising one side of the crib....it's definitely worth a shot!

  • I've been going by this because I have an extremely hard time with napping and not being able to put baby down. She talks a lot about swings in the 0-3 section https://www.troublesometots.com/baby-sleep-guides/

but. he will eventually and its less pressure on your night time sleep.you cant just give up because its hard -_-

I never said anything about giving up because it's too hard.  I put him down for a nap in his crib around 8:45 this morning and he's still napping (an hour and a half later)...but he's on his stomach which is the only way he'll sleep that long.

  • Is the RNP in the same room as the crib or PNP? If not, start by moving it to the room you want them to end up in. I second the ideas of raising the crib mattress and swaddling. Keira would only sleep in the RNP at first but over time and with swaddling she now sleeps in the PNP with her brother. Just keep trying and give it time.

  • All of these are great ideas ladies!  Thanks so much for your input!

  • We also had issues! We raised up one end of his bed and bought a halo sleep sack. The sleep sack seems to do the trick for us! Good luck!
  • Also, if lo breaks out of swaddle (like mine), I've started using the woombie. Lo has slept either in her rnp or with me and last night slept for 4 hours in pnp. I also second having the pnp in your room if it's nt already.
  • Do you swaddle? Sophie only likes sleeping on her stomach because she startles herself awake when she's on her back. She hates being swaddled, but on difficult nights I swaddle her anyway once she's pretty drowsy. She sleeps in her PNP at night and her crib for daytime naps. She sleeps in her swing when she's being a grouch and won't sleep, but only if I'm awake in the same room. Hang in there! He'll get it eventually!

this for the swaddle !!! LO has slept perfect the past 2 nights , we have been using the swaddle me . It's the only way she will sleep on a flat surface , if she's not swaddled she will start swinging her arms around and it wakes her up . She sleeps in the bassinet swaddled for naps and half the night . Ill transition to her crib in another month . Until then she will sleep in her RNP and her bassinet swaddled .

  • 1.start with naps 2. Skip the pack n play unless there is some reason you want lo to sleep there and be used to it (ie, if you travel a lot and that is what they will be in). Otherwise you are setting yourself up for another transition down the road. Just bite the bullet and do the crib! With dd, I picked a Friday night since dh would be home all weekend and we could take turns napping if it didn't go well (which it didn't). By the time Sunday rolled around she was pretty used to it and gave us longer stretches. Napping was still hard in the crib but she was good at night, which was all I really cared about.
