Finally got my hands on a copy of H's SA results

And my nurse was sugar coating things for me.  She told me that they didn't do the Kruger morphology, but they did and it was 100% abnormal.  It also states that he has "severe oligo-asteno-teratozoospermia".  We're still waiting on his blood work to come back, we expect it to be in sometime this week so we have the big picture to bring to the MFI urologist, but things are not looking pretty.  Looks like we are on the bench for awhile.

I'm sorry  I hate when people try to sugarcoat things.  Just tell me how it is, no matter how bad it may hurt!

I'm sorry! I also don't like when they sugarcoat things, or when they're just not direct. We're all adults and I clearly know there's something going on, so just tell me what it is.

has he been checked for a variococele vein? i think you will feel better after seeing a mfi uro. i felt miserable after seeing the re and being pressured to do ivf with icsi.. the uro had alternative to try first

We know that he has a large varicocele in his scrotum. We're just waiting for blood to come back with karotyping and hormones so that we can present the whole picture to the MFI Urologist.  It just sucks that we were planning on cycling in July and now that is off the table. 

I'm also pissed that my nurse didn't give me the whole picture and I had to jump through hoops to get a copy of the test in my hands.  I'm a nurse, I speak medical and I know how to read a report, don't talk to me like I'm a 12 year old, and don't call me sweetie.

I know it would be unbelievable difficult to switch gears, but can you switch clinics? I don't know if you like the other nurses/doctors there, but IF (and medicine in general) is not a place to sugarcoat things. Any IF diagnosis is going to have a major impact on what protocol, medicine, or method you choose, and to invest all that time/money when they are not being upfront with you might make it harder to deal with later on.

This is exactly what I would do and I second this advice.

This is my biggest pet peeve.  Talk to me like I'm your equal, not someone who doesn't know anything.  I'm sorry about DH's SA results.  I hope they can come up with a good plan for you.

I'm sorry, that sucks. Even if a patient doesn't have a medical background, we are still absolutely entitled to the entire truth in our medical record. Don't dumb it down or sugarcoat it over the phone. Grr. Prayers that the rest of your testing goes quickly and that the uro can come up with some kind of plan.

I'm sorry about your SA results. Kudos to you for being your own advocate and insisting on the details of your chart.

I saw in your siggy that you had already planned IVF/ICSI but that's on hold for now, so I guess ICSI alone isn't the answer? I hope the uro finds a good, quick fix so you can get off the bench.

We were planning on ICSI but he had 100% abnormal sperm on his last SA.  We need to have something to work with first which is why we are benched.

That's so frustrating, I'm so sorry! I saw a PP had asked about trying ICSI, but I thought it looked from your siggy like that wasn't an option with this SA.
