OPK question/concern?!

Good Morning Everyone,
I am new to the site and new to TTC!  I appreciate all your help and input.
I recently purchased a Clear.Blue.Easy Fert.ility Monitor. I followed the directions step by step I started testing at cycle day 6 and the monitor requested .  Around cycle day 8/9 It began reading " high" and has been reading " high" ever since today is cycle day 19. It has not detected a " peak" (yet?).  I am freaking out.  Now I know that in the booklet it said the first month this can happen BUT has this happened to anyone else???  Please help calm my nerves!

Found out in May I have 2 blocked tubes.
Waiting too see my doctor again to decide next steps.

Re: OPK question/concern?!

  • I have never used a fertility monitor, but if it says this is a normal result in the manual, why are you freaking out?

  • Why are you freaking out?! Lol, but seriously, you just need to HIO. I would use wondfros like PP said. They are so cheap, you could use them twice a day, no problem. Also, you need to use BBT to really know for sure. That's the only way to know you ovulated. OPKs only tell you if your body is gearing up to O. You can 'gear up' without actually O'ing. I do it all the time, unfortunately. Temping will confirm whether or not you actually did. Good luck!

  • Thanks Ladies!!  I think I just wanted confirmation that it actually does happen to other people. When I did not get the "peak" reading I automatically thought " oh God I don't ovulate" .  Happy Humping~

FYI, even if you get a peak reading, it doesn't guarantee that you ovulate.  It's possible to get positive OPKs and not ovulate.  The monitors and OPKs are looking for hormonal changes that occur before ovualtion (OPKs are looking at LH and I believe that the monitor is looking at LH and estrogen levels).  It is possible to have theise hormonal changes (particularly the spike in LH) and not ovulate.  It you want to confirm that you are ovulating look into charting your BBT.  It is the only way to confirm ovulation at home.
