Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Vacation on Cape Cod

We are going on vacation down the Cape in a few weeks. I am torn whether to bring my 22 month olds stroller or his radio flyer wagon. We have a small SUV and can't fit both and everything else. We will be their for a week and going to the beach, Martha's Vineyard etc. I have a travel system stroller but am considering buying one of the nicer umbrella strollers if we so choose to go that option rather than the wagon. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Re: Vacation on Cape Cod

  • We just got back from the beach for a week. Not sure how far you'll be staying from the actual beach, but we didn't need the stroller or a wagon to get there. We just loaded up the necessities in a big bag and walked on over. We did use our stroller for walking around town, though. A wagon really doesn't seem necessary.
  • I used to live quite close to there. I wouldn't bring the wagon. It's going to get pretty congested there soon and I for one wouldn't want to negotiate sidewalks/parking lots/ anything else with it. I wouldn't even buy a fancy umbrella stroller. I'd buy one of the cheap $10 types and bring a big bag, like PP said. It's going to the beach, it's gonna get dirty. No reason to break the bank, since you already have a nicer travel system stroller.

  • we got to MV every summer. Last year was the first one with a child. Our umbrella stroller was essential. I can't speak for the Cape, but on Martha's Vineyard there was a lot of walking around town etc. Our regular stroller would have been too big for the narrow sidewalks, crowds etc. I went back and forth and bought a nice umbrella stroller a week before we left on vacation and was glad we did. A wagon wouldn't have worked in town or on the beach for us.

On the beach we wore DD alot but this summer We'll likely just carry her or have her walk. I don't think many strollers or a wagon would help with that since the sand is pretty deep and not packed on all the beaches there.

  • Thanks so much for all the advice. I think we will get a good umbrella stroller and go that route.
