May I ask about belly button piercings?

So I know this super stupid but I got one almost 10 years ago. All of a sudden my bump has appeared. I am not complaining but its surprising because most people told me I wouldn't start showing till 5-7 months. I have gained 10lbs already but I was told I should expect to gain 30-35lbs because when I got my BFP I was at 105lbs. Sorry about the back story, but now what should I do about my piercing? I always said when I got pregnant I'd take it out and let it close up, but now I am questioning that.

Anyone else have a piercing and what did you or are you going to do?

They make plastic belly button rings to wear throughout your pregnancy. I would try googling pregnancy belly button rings and I'm sure you'll have no problem

Eta: lol that wasn't your question. I kept all my piercings but decided if they need to come out during labor and delivery then I'm not going to care and let them go.

I was going to ask the same thing! Mine got super irritated about a week ago and it took DH and I two pairs of pliars and nearly 10 minutes to get the balls off my barbell. It definitely had no room to move back and forth due to my rapid expansion. Since it was looking yucky I left the bar out and it seems to be healing.....completely. Not sure how I feel about that- I'm mostly concerned with scarring. If I knew it would heal with a minimal scar I think I might leave it out, yet I'm still not sure I'm willing to part with it. Feels silly; I'm curious to see what others have to say.

With my son who is almost 11, I kept mine in until my bump started stretching it. It actually hurt. So, I removed it and never put it back in because, well my stomach wasn't really amazing looking after I ended up with two stretch marks from that pregnancy. One through my belly ring hole area and one over my tattoo. Go figure. I think you can play it by ear though. For me, once my belly started to get big, there wasn't room for the ring anymore.

I have my belly button pierced as well and I plan on leaving it in until I have to take it out for L&D, but I'll probably put it back in shortly after.

My hubby and I were just talking about this last night... I've had mine for 11 years and I like it, but I'm not sure yet that I will miss it... definitely wondering about the scarring though. If nothing else take it out for a little while and see what you think?  If you can't find a plastic one that works what about thick fishing wire or something like that? That would help keep the hole from closing and be safe for delivery.

I'm so glad you asked this question.  I also have a belly button ring, and I was going to take it out at the last moment possible.  @MishaBelle521 good advice about the plastic ring; I never thought of that.

I have mine too and I suppose i will take it out when it starts to get uncomfortable.  I just haven't decided if putting it back in will be in the cards or not.

I took mine out. DH has always hated it anyway. At 33 weeks I no longer have a belly button, it has totally pushed out so it is even with my belly. I wonder if it will pop into an outie before baby is born. I am sure it would hurt and there would be no room for it of I had left it in.
I don't care of it closes up but I doubt it will. I can still see the holes and my nose peircing that I took out 11 years ago never closed up. If your skin healed with the peircing in I don't get how it could close up later.

They make special jewelry that you can put in during pregnancy.  I'm 8 mos pregnant now and up about 25 lbs, and I can still wear my regular ones so I haven't bothered with the pregnancy ones.  I also still have an inny, and while it has started to change shape, it's nowhere near being an outty and my piercing hole is pretty much still in the same spot.  I don't keep my belly ring in, but every week or so I put it in for a day just to make sure the hole didn't close.

I took mine out before my ER with my DS (couldn't have it in in the retrieval room) and never put it back in. No one wants to see my belly right now It looked totes normal during my pregnancy with H and also so far this one. Honestly, I don't ever think about it. I just know my bikini days are over - unless I am in my own backyard!
