My results from the 24 hr urine collection and blood draw were great! I still have protein in my urine, but it's less than what is was when I was in the hospital. Hopefully all my odd medical drama is done with and I can have an uneventful remainder to this pregnancy! My next OB appt is Thursday and they'll be doing an u/s to check the length of my cervix. I hope they'll get a few shots of my babies too. I've only had a million ultrasounds already, but I love seeing my little ones on the screen.

QOTW: I would definitely like to see infertility treated as a medical condition and therefore covered by all insurance plans. I didn't go through 3+ years of treatment for the heck of it. My body failed at performing a normal function and that should be covered by my insurance.

Hi ladies! Things are going pretty well around here. But we did run into a curve ball. Turns out I have gestational diabetes. I'm not thrilled about it, but I have lots of knowledge about diabetes care, BG testing, etc because I have a diabetic father AND a diabetic cat. I had a nutritionist consult this morning and thankfully, 99% of it was a refresher. I'm confident I can control this with just my diet because my numbers aren't that bad. And baby is growing on track and doing well. That's the most important part!

QOTW: I'm not so sure that my change would be medical, it would be around acceptance of IF in the mainstream world. I am so sad that it's such a hush hush thing and isn't openly talked about. I wish it were just as worthy of a cause as fighting breast cancer, diabetes, etc. It's not any of our fault and I hate that there's shame that comes with it for many.

Hi ladies! 25w solid today. Glucose screen went well, I didnt even break 100 on the one or two hour draws. If my one hour one was 87, I don't see why they couldn't just called it good there!! Had some yucky swelling ankle and shin wise this past week, but of course looked great at my appt, so Doc shrugged it off. Guess I'll just keeping monitoring myself at work (I work at an acute care and OB hospital) to keep tabs on things. BP has been good, so we'll see how it goes. Baby room got assembled this weekend--so weird to see other things in there besides my guest room stuff!

QUOTE: It'd be nice to have some fertility coverage. Our plan said it'd cover diagnostic studies, but I fought and they still wouldn't pay for any of it! Ridiculous!

Hi ladies!

23w3d today, and I can't believe how fast time is flying by! Nothing too exciting going on here, we are tossing around baby names and have one definite first and middle name but they won't necessarily go together. We're close on a second first and middle name and then just have to match them up. We're using family names for middle names, my maiden name will be one and we're leaning towards my husband's grandmother's maiden name for the other. 

Appointment wise, we have a cervical check and growth scan on Friday morning to make sure everything is going the way that it should. Next OB appointment is in 3 weeks where we finally get to meet the doctor. I've been seeing the nurse practitioner who is wonderful but given this is a single practitioner practice, I want to get to know the guy who is going to be delivering our babies! I also have my glucose tolerance test coming up in 3 weeks and I was less than thrilled to find out that it's the 3 hour test. Apparently my doctor feels this is a better indicator of GD for his patients and does not prescribe the 1 hour test. Fingers crossed that goes well because fruit is really getting me through this pregnancy.

QOTW: I would really like to see more insurance companies cover infertility treatment. It's not an elective procedure to go through and it really boggles my mind how many people are OOP. I realize how fortunate I am to live in a state with an infertility mandate but also realize that not everyone is afforded the same coverage. I would really like to see this addressed on a national level as it's not something that anyone would ever choose to go through and should be covered accordingly by insurance policies.

Hi Everyone. Not much going on here either except lots and lots of movement, especially over the last three days. It's thrilling! I do wish DH could feel it- hopefully baby will get bigger and stronger quickly so he can share the excitement. I hit the halfway mark yesterday. We spent Easter with DHs family and MIL got us a pack n play for Easter. She had it set up when we got back to their house after church and had put a huge stuffed kitty in it she named for my kitty who passed away, so LO would always have him around. Made me tear up (and still does) that she would be so thoughtful- I really hit the jackpot with them.

We started our registries and have narrowed down crib options. I really appreciate the input about the nursery and have decided to use the Beatrix Potter things after all. @Allison7 I had forgotten about Miss Moppet until last week- I think that was what sealed the deal. I am a hopeless cat lady.

QOTW: I think I'd like more education about infertility as early as high school. I'm a big believer in comprehensive sex education, and I think an understanding of IF is essential to preparing people to become responsible members of society. Education would hopefully prevent some of the ignorance and stereotypes that many of us have had to deal with, and move IF out of the shadows into the daylight where we can discuss it as we do any other medical condition.

Hi girls, another week of no major updates. Baby boy is moving around a lot and getting more aggressive with his kicks and punches and you can definitely see my stomach moving when he moves now. I feel like he's getting huge...my bump seems to be taking on a more watermelon shape which I don't want! I'd like him to stay a cute, round basketball bump!

My baby shower is May 3rd and we are driving up to NJ from SC for that. I am excited to see friends and family, but not super excited for the 10+ hour drive!

QOTW: I would just like infertility to be covered by all insurance plans and less limitations on what they cover. (I know it isn't that simple though)

Hello All! Things are pretty good around here. I had a normal OB appointment yesterday. I did manage to gain 5.5 lbs, so I am up to 7 for the whole pregnancy and the OB is good with that. Yay to no food journal! While the OB expects my total gain to be under the 25lb "normal" she said it is fine once you add in the extra I put on pre-pregnancy with the fertility meds. I did end up getting a pretty bad outbreak of cold sores (I have two on my lips and one on my chin), so the OB decided it was time I took Valtrex to clear it up. I hate taking meds like that while pregnant, but she assured me that taking them would do less harm than me continuing to have cold sores and rampant infection for the next several months. Since I have not gone to med school, I will take her word for it. My glucose test, anemia bloodwork, and next OB appointment are set for 4 weeks from today. 

So this past week I think I have pretty much finished the registries! BRU is so overwhelming! I tried to split things between BRU and Target and be mindful of what is in stock and what is ordered online. I didn't put a lot of clothes on there because my mom and BFF say that people will just buy them anyway, but I am getting a little freaked that if I don't put them on the registry that she will not have anything to wear. What did you ladies do about clothing and your registry? 

QOTW: So I think the biggest thing I would like to change would be the insurance coverage. It is a little ridiculous that my insurance would have covered a penile implant to help treat erectile dysfunction (if the meds didn't work) but that they wouldn't cover infertility treatments for me. Just seems ridiculous. 

Of course, I also wish that it wasn't this weird taboo subject. Our society is so open about so many things, but I really resented the expectation that I would keep my losses or my IF struggles to myself. We have fundraising walks for all kinds of cancers, childhood diseases, causes, but this idea that IF and loss is "private" I think leads to people largely ignoring IF - which is a pretty big issue that affects so many couples in our society.

I think the final things I would like to see changed is the standard of care. It just seems like so many offices do so many things differently. I know that doctors will always have different ways of approaching a problem - this is why people seek second opinions and that is good. But some of the differences are scary. My SIL was on HCG shots until she was around 12 weeks and that is when they gave her an u/s to see if she was pregnant. She has no idea why they didn't ultrasound her until then. She didn't even know she was pregnant her entire first trimester and she was under the care of an RE! My RE only liked to do monitoring u/s with the first round of clomid - the subsequent rounds she did nothing. I didn't know I wasn't going to be montiored the second sound until I had taken the second round. I hated that, but changing doctors meant going to a place with lower success rates and waiting 2 months for an initial appointment. If there was a better standard of care and education, then some of these scary conditions might not happen.

@Allison7 I just put basic white onesies and socks. People always want to pick out their own outfits for baby. Also, clothes have a fast turnover rate and may not be available by the time your shower rolls around (according to the registry assistant that gave me advice on what to register for). I figured I'll probably get some gift cards so if I don't get many clothes at my showers then I can have fun buying the clothes with the gift cards.

I love this check-in kudos on a job well done! Silly preggo brain, appt and u/s are next Tuesday the 29th....but to get me through, my little nugget is quite active in there!! My belly has definitely grown and that makes getting in and out of the car a little more difficult. Twice I've gotten in to the car in a way that nugget did not like, and I was "rewarded" with a massive jab to the belly!! Lol I absolutely love feeling the movement. It actually makes me tear up QOTW: I would love for insurance to recognize this is a medical condition and needs to be covered. My BFF has unfortunately lost 5 pregnancies and now, both tubes. The amount of debt that they are in because nothing was covered is astronomical. The poor thing doesn't even want to try IVF any more because of the cost (not to mention heartache) c'mon insurance companies! Get with it!!

Hey ladies,

An uneventful week for me other than that I went to the dentist. I have to go back next week to get a chipped filling taken care of and then the week after for a cleaning. I really HATE the dentist so I am glad it wasn't worse. I think LO is doing good. Starting to feel little things but I am second guessing myself on if its gas or not, so I am ready to be sure of what it is. Also DH and I are heading to baby stores this weekend so he can get a feel for all of it so we can get registered by sometime around 20 weeks. We did decide on a lion king nursery (since we are team green). Also started talking names. We decided we will come up with 2 names for both a boy and a girl. We didn't want to pick just one and then see LO and be like that's not it. Crazy I know but ah well. Oh and pants are a bit tight so I am doing the rubber band thing but plan to buy some maternity pants soon.

QOTW: I'd like to see better coverage across the country. I am lucky that I work for a large company so I had insurance coverage. I got lucky that our 3rd IUI took, otherwise for IVF it would've still cost us quite a bit out of pocket. I still feel like we spent a lot, but I know its pennies compared to some people. I'd also like to see it not be so taboo a subject with ignorant people blaming it on everything under the moon. Sadly you can't fix stupid.

Hey ladies! We are 15w4d today. We had a great check up with our MFM, who is freaking awesome and I love her. She was funny and easy going, but is a definite straight shooter. I'm not sure if I like her or my OB more! We start growth sonos every other week starting next Friday, so I'm excited to see them. AND our AS is coming up in 3 weeks! We can't wait to find out who is in there!

QOTW: I wish fertility issues would be more at the forefront of medicinal news. I know there is a lot of other stuff going on in the world, but I'd rather hear about new advances in fertility medicine/procedures than how to lose another 5 pounds fast!

I can't believe this is my last check-in, and I'm moving on to 3rd tri. Crazy!! It is no joke when they say 2nd tri is the honeymoon phase of pregnancy. I feel like the minute I hit 27 weeks, my hands and feet started swelling up like crazy, and I am officially starting to look like the nutty professor. The waddling is in full effect now too. It's gonna be an interesting 10 weeks, but I am psyched we are getting so close. The movers are coming this weekend to get all the furniture out of our 2nd bedroom, and then we can finally start getting the nursery ready.

@Allison7 - thanks again for the great and personalized check-in! I've had the same anxiety about babies not having anything to wear - so I just registered for some very basic gowns and am hoping for hand-me-downs and gifts for the rest. I also plan to not take tags off of anything until I know for sure we need it, so that we can exchange for essential items as needed. I've heard BRU is great about returns/exchanges.

I'm 21 weeks now. I'm doing a lot better emotionally this week as far as my anxiety goes. I restarted zoloft (I'm also in therapy) which has been helpful to me in the past, and although I'd prefer to be med-free during my pregnancy my anxiety was so out of control that I had no appetite and wasn't sleeping and that's not good for the babies either. I also haven't had any new bleeding from the previa in three weeks so OB is letting me work half days now. Getting out of the house I'm sure has also done a huge amount for my anxiety. I wish I could exercise and be more active but I'll take what I can get! DH continues to be amazingly supportive.

I've been feeling the girls move more and more which is so exciting. I am also excited for DH to be able to feel them and he thinks he "might" have once. I feel like my bump all of a sudden is huge (in a good way) and the new symptom I've had is intermittent shortness of breath which I'm guessing is from babies crowding out my lungs a bit.

QOTW: I feel like I grew up with no idea how hard it can be to get and or stay pregnant. There was so much focus in my life on "don't get knocked up" that I felt like if I had sex once without protection I would become pregnant. So I guess I wish it was just more out there, but I also understand it's a personal preference of whether or not you want to talk about it. I am very open about our treatments and every time someone asks me if we were surprised by twins or if they run in our family, I tell them that we had fertility treatments. 

Of course I also wish damn insurance companies would treat it like the medical condition it is.

Gracie had her cardigan echo and a growth ultrasound last week and everything looked good. She weighed 1lb3oz and is quite the mover in there. I have a regular ob appointment this week and another growth ultrasound on 2 weeks. My insulin needs keep changing, as is expected during this stage if pregnancy. I hate to see out of line glucose readings, but none of mine have been too far off.

QOTD: we are very lucky to live in a state with a mandate and have our cycle covered by insurance. However, with DEggs there are still costs that are not covered, the donor fee and DE admin costs. I can't imagine our costs without insurance. I would love to see the mandate be nationwide and with no exceptions. When I think of the things that are covered by most insurance plans when IF is not it makes me so angry.

HI, I would like to be added. I am 14 weeks, EDD 10/16/2014

I just had an US Monday because my OB couldn't find the heartbeat with the Doppler. Which scared the crap out of me. I have an anterior placenta (plus some extra padding) so that' why the Doppler wasn't working. No appt until 18 weeks, will schedule the anatomy scan for 20 weeks at that appt.

 

QOTW: I live in MO, we have horrible IF coverage. I would like to see us brought to the basic standards SO many other states have. Also, I struggled with 2IF. I wish there was more research out there, or more info. I have felt like most people assume if you conceived one child, then you should be able to conceive another just as easily.

Holy smokes.... I am a slacker! 25w2d and look about 8 months along! During my massage yesterday, the massage therapist asked me to turn over. THAT was an event. I told her that it's no wonder whales lived in water! Fat equals buoyancy. Ugh. What a hot mess! Lil Mamba is growing--had our 2nd scan to get more pics last week and everything was great. The crib arrived, bought sheets, picked up some more maternity clothes in anticipation of an incredibly hot and humid summer. I am SO thankful to be pregnant but the thought of a continually sweaty vagina, swollen limbs, and my already insufferable hormones... God bless those around me in 3rd tri! Hope you ladies are well!

Thanks, as always, @Allison7!  Glad to hear good updates from everyone.  

I am 21 weeks today!  We had our anatomy scan on Monday - saw a femur, bladder, kidneys, brain, heart (heart rate 155 and made me cry), spine...no cleft palate, so that's good.  We didn't get a good profile image like they show in the movies, which made me sad, and no print-outs for us.  Ah, well.  The app't was good, I told my doctor that I've been stressed for the last month about weight since she'd told me I wasn't allowed to gain more than 6 more pounds by the end of second tri and she said, "Don't be stressed.  You're doing fine.  Right now you're up 13 lbs, and if you continue to gain a pound a week for the rest of the pregnancy, you'll be right in the normal healthy range."  So, WHEW.

She also said I can take a second 24-hour Zyrtec occasionally if I need to (normally I take 2 a day about half the year), *and* I can use my topical steroid cream for eczema.  I've had eczema patches on my underarms since about the second I got my BFP and they have been SO itchy and painful, and using the cream just once has made such an improvement.  So thank goodness for that!  And I'm allowed to eat tofu again, which is helpful since I keep kosher and that makes me effectively vegetarian out of the house.

So all in all, a great day on Monday!  Baby girl continues to kick or otherwise "twinge" on occasion.  Apparently my placenta is posterior, so there's nothing to cushion her movements - which is why DH can feel them so easily, too.  I'm cool with that!

QOTW: Having worked in the life insurance industry for 15 years, I really wish that insurance were regulated at the federal (national) level, instead of the current regulation at the state level, which leads to the ugly patchwork we have.  I wish that infertility treatments were fully covered everywhere, obviously.  And I wish infertility were covered as part of basic sex education in middle school / high school.  Because by the end, I was on the verge of sucker-punching everyone who said, "Just relax and it will happen."  "Just relaxing" is not going to make my eggs grow, or get hubby's swimmers up close and personal with my cervix.

Hi, everyone!  I can't believe it's my last check-in.  All is well here at 27w5d, though I overdid it a bit this weekend and am having pain in my upper butt.  Maybe sciatica?  I'm hoping it will go away and this won't be a continual thing.  Ouch.  Suddenly I'm walking like a pregnant lady.  

QOTW:  Agree with all about insurance coverage, AND I think the insurance incentives should be structured to encourage eSETs -- for example, maybe they should cover more cycles + unlimited FETs if they're all eSETs.  The insurance companies might even save $$ by avoiding tons of NICU costs!  People should be able make choices about how many to transfer based on health considerations, not because they have to go in guns blazing because they know they can't afford another cycle.

Hey Ladies! I'd like to join you. My EDD is 10/23. I am 14 weeks today! I am so excited to have made it to 2nd Tri! A weight has been lifted just making it this far! Right now we are Team Green, our ultrasound to find out gender is in beginning of June. I can't wait! I've been feeling baby move this week. It's early but it's the same exact feeling I had at my last ultrasound when tech "woke baby up". Then she said he/she was moving like crazy. That fluttery feel is amazing. Other than that, baby seems to be right on track.

QOTW:
I'm fortunate enough to have great insurance, I wish more companies offered the coverage I have.

I'd also like people to be more aware of IF and how the "helpful" quips they make are usually more hurtful.than anything. I'd like to be able to make insensitive people take a class.

So DH did surprise me on Easter with a blue egg and a little note saying it's a boy!  I didn't have any feeling one way or another of what it might be and we're still trying to absorb what having a boy means (other than that my bathroom will be crusted in pee).  My main reason for wanting it to be a surprise was with IVF there's so much that's planned and while there are some surprises, everything is explained and planned out. I just wanted to be surprised, I didn't care if it came now or later.

I'm 21w 5d and have been feeling him move usually every night. I was at Yoga yesterday and when we were almost done he was moving around like crazy!  I had my iron rechecked (it was low at my first appt) and it's still low so I go back on Fri for them to check folic acid & Vitamin B12. Not sure why they do that, but from what I read, baby is fine, it's just me that's getting affected.

QOTW: I agree with everything the PP have said!!

Hi ladies!

We are 25w5d over here and babies are moving like crazy! It's hard for me to determine who is which kick but I have my guesses! We were able to see them on the 3D ultrasound live and move around and it is just crazy what you can see with technology! OB said my goal day is July 4th which is mind blowing but I'm so excited!! Hopefully we go further than that but one day at a time.

I'm struggling with sleeping at night and I get itchy all over which keeps me awake longer, but it's all apart of the experience so I'm loving it!

Hello! I am a little late

I am 16 weeks today. Had an appt yesterday. It was mostly a cervix check but I do have to brag a little - I measured 3.8cm and is shut tight. That definitely makes me feel better! A/S scheduled for May 21st. I have gained 5 punds so far, so that's good, but my OB wants me at 1lb a week from here on out. I feel like I eat all.the.time.

QOTW: Well, since everything we have done has been 100% OOP, I would definitely like to see health care reform around ART procedures. It is sad to think some people seriously can't afford to go through with any of it.

Hi ladies and wonderful check in leader!

I will be 16 weeks tomorrow!! These twins are my first, so I don't know what movement feels like, but I did feel a twisting the other day, so maybe that was it? I get random pains here and there, but is movement painful?

No more bleeding around here, which is good, and I'm still trucking away with my daily lovenox. My belly is full of tiny black and blue bruises already. I have found that injecting further away from my belly button and closer to my hip hurts less, so that's good. No appointments this week, but I do see my MFM on Tuesday, at 16w4d, so I'm hoping we can find out the sexes then. Fingers crossed! Maybe I'll know for the next update!

QOTW: Like everyone else, I wish it was covered. We are OOP and last year alone we spent close to $30,000. That doesn't include the previous year's Lap or the 4 IUIs.. eeek. It kills me to think what we could have done with that money, but I don't regret it ONE BIT. We both got second jobs to pay for it last year, put the rest on credit cards, and obviously it was worth it.

Almost 24 weeks here and v-day!!! Feeling my little boy moving all the time and loving every sec. Dh and I just sit in bed watching my belly bounce all around its the best! Feeling pretty great lately.

Nbr we got an offer on our home yesterday and are hoping everything goes smoothly and nothing falls through. Our market is so bad in my area so feeling pretty excited!

Qotw: like others have said although my insurance now covers IVF and other fertility treatments what i had prior didnt when i did my fresh cycle or anything leading up. I think all insurance should provide coverage on this and their should be some type of compensation on taxes rather than the little they offer now.

not much going on this week, feeling Pebbles & BamBam move around a lot more this week, especially BamBam considering his placenta is anterior. i tried to get DH to feel a little tap last night but as soon as he placed his hand on my belly, they stopped moving lol.

I think I had my very first braxton hicks contractions this week. i've had about 2 of them, lasting just a minute or 2 and did realize that one was from being too lazy and letting my bladder get super full before i finally got up and the other time i was on my feet for a few hours doing basic household chores and cooking. they're not painful, just feel the tightness and fullness for a bit so hopefully they dont get any worse than that.

QOTW: definitely agree with what all of u have already said, and the only thing i would add is how i wish the insensitivity about ppl with IF problems can change. From a certain modest standpoint i can SOMEWHAT understand the hush hush about this topic. At the end of the day though its still a body part, and no man or woman should feel incompetent or less than what they are because they have to deal with something that isn't in their hands.

I didn't check in last week... been having a tough time with the GD or possibly regular diabetes since it was diagnosed so early. And I've been feeling so self conscious about my body. We did have our a/s a couple weeks ago and thrilled to report team pink! Had an OB appt yesterday and insulin is doing it's job and we talked about the possibility of inducing at 39 weeks. I did make it past the half way mark on Monday which was very exciting. So far I just feel like I'm going through the motions and honestly this still isn't real. Well that was kind of a depressing post... didn't really mean for that! Happy Friday!

I can't believe this is my last post in 2nd tri! I am defintlly feeling the 3rd Tri aches and pains. it feels like all of a sudden I was feeling great and then BOOM I'm like a freaking turtle on it's back trying to get out of bed! I will get to glucose test on this coming wed. along with checking blood work to see how my iron is doing and such. I have a feeling my dizzy spells are due to low iron since I had iron deficiency even before pregnancy (I do take iron daily...but still). I am so excited about my shower tomorrow!

How far along are you this week? I will be 17 weeks tomorrow.

Any appointments or other updates? Had two appointments last week and got to see both babies.  They had heartbeats of 152 bpm each.  

Also, please let me know if I have your “team” listed correctly or if it needs to be updated. long story short....they are both BOYS! Team Blue!

Due to high blood pressure and dehydration, I have been put on two weeks of medical leave from work.  I lost 4 lbs in a week and had had 2 major days of diarrhea in one week that I think really contributed to my fluid/weight loss. It's hard as a teacher to accept that news and then figure out what to do next.  Got the word at my dr. appointment on 4/24 and have been checking my bp 2x a day.  It was 140/100 at the appointment and taken 20 minutes later....well, it was higher and they didn't give me the numbers.  I was too upset crying to know I would be out of work.  It's all for a good cause. It's just hard as I will run out of sick days and will be on non-paid leave.  I am adjusting to being home today but it still is very hard.  

QOTW: In honor of National Infertility Awareness Week - what changes would you like to see regarding how infertility is treated in your country? This could be changes in insurance, standard of care, education, etc.  I would just like people out there to stop and think prior to EVER asking why a couple has not started their family.  Infertility is everywhere and is so very private.

Sorry for the late check-in, last week was crazy busy with work. 

I'm 23 weeks, 6 days and the little guy has been moving a lot.  He's on a pretty regular schedule as i can tell, likes to wake up around 6:30- 7 a.m. and then early afternoon and late at night.  We started our nursery this weekend, and started removing the old wall paper.  It was a huge pain, and we aren't even half-way done and the room is small.  We also ordered our glider/recliner/rocker from Wayfair, it was a great deal and all the reviews were positive.  Plus it was a great price. 

QOTW:  Like PP,  I really wish insurance coverage was mandated for infertility.  Our insurance covered diagnostics and IUI, so we were completely OOP for IVF.

Hi everyone I'm new here and would like to be added to this group. I'm 14 weeks today my due date is 10/27. QOTW: I wish there was more awareness about infertilty , as well as more fertilty testing in place that could be done at your regular obgyn appointments earlier in a women's reproductive years so that when you are diagnosed with something fertilty related you would have more fertilty options when you're ready to start building your family.

16w 3d -Sorry for being a slacker, wanted to wait until my OB appointment to update.

Appointment went great, got to hear the heartbeat! DH couldn't make it so my mom came and she cried when she heard it. I recorded it for hubby and played it for him when he got home.

Other than that everything is going good. I was worried because I don't seem to be showing all that much but my OB said it was normal since this is my first. I keep telling DH that I can't wait to really look pregnant...even though I know I am going to regret saying that probably at some point haha
