TTC after 35

Clomid question

I'm going to be starting Clomid this cycle and I was wondering how often you were monitored while on it?
The RE just had me do an ultrasound last week to check the lining, but hasn't said anything about further monitoring. I should be getting AF any day now, so maybe they want to wait to schedule monitoring for a certain day.
This drug makes me very nervous due to the risks.

Re: Clomid question

  • I haven't started Clomid yet - I'm planning to wait another month or two in a last ditch hope that Nature will jump in.  But my RE did say that if/once I started they would have me come in for an ultrasound during my first month to make sure there aren't too many follicles - I can't recall exactly when, but I would assume it would be around ovulation. Since the plan would be to start IUI the month after, I don't know what is typical for on-going Clomid-only monitoring though.

  • Clomid monitoring can consist of a baseline ultrasound ( to check for cysts)  and many RE's will do one to check to check your follicles right before ovulation.  Some RE's have you use OPKS to help with the timing while many ( like mine) rely on blood work and in office OPKS.

The primary concern from Clomid are cysts and Clomid is known to thin out your lining. There is a 6x max lifetime usage.   Having proper testing before using clomid is super important as well. Day 3 testing, HSG and a SA for your partner.  Why waste a cycle on clomid if you have a blocked tube or something is wrong with the sperm etc...

@ksgsmu‌ Ok, that's helpful. We have done all the pre-testing (HSG, Pap, SA, day 3 blood work) over two months, including the ultrasound recently. I hear ladies talk about being monitored so closely that I wondered what the proper amount was. She is starting me on 50mg first to see how my body reacts.
    Thanks for the info!
  • That is a good dose to start... I hated Clomid... made me a total beyotch :)
