Baby Names

Theo?

This is baby #3 and its a boy. We have an Addison & Elliott and are having the hardest time coming up with another boy name. Besides the name Henry, we like Theodore and would call him Theo....not sure if it goes well with our other 2 kids. And I love the nn Teddy for a little boy, I feel like kids have a hard time shaking their childhood nn's.  And I don't think a college kid or a grown man should probably be called Teddy. So, opinions? Does Theo work for #3?

Re: Theo?

  • I think Theodore is a great name. I wouldn't worry too much about a NN, it will come naturally. He will be called what he wants to be called. Look at Ted Mosby :)

I doubt I would call him Theodore, and I should probably consider just naming him Theo. But yes, Ted Mosby (or Jed Mosley) is pretty cool. :)

    I really like Theo!
  • I think just Theo is great... I really like it and don't think it needs a longer name such as Theodore. And it pairs fine with siblings.

  • Theodore and Theo are totally awesome names. I might be biased because I have a little Theodore that goes by Theo!

  • I love Theodore and it's my top choice if the next kiddo is a boy. I like Teddy, Theo and Theodore.
  • I like Theodore!

I will be the minority though and admit that I don't care for the nickname "Theo". I'm not sure why, I just have never cared for it.

I love Teddy and think he could easily transition to Ted as he got older. Or go by Teddy by friends/family and Theodore at work.

(My DH and I are high school sweethearts and even though he is firmly John at work, he will always be Johnny to me :) )

  • DS1 is Theodore /Theo. I think Teddy is sweet for a little boy, but I don't like Ted at all and was worried that Teddy would become Ted once he was school age. We used Theo as the NN and he is very happy with it. He prefers it to Theodore.

  • I have a Theo, we didn't want a Ted. I still love it and we get compliments all the time. Only issue is sometimes people pronounce it Te-o which is think is a pronunciation in Spanish maybe? We usually get that at the doctors office. Not a big deal. I also never realized how many Leos were out there until I had a Theo.
