As a lot of you know I work at an urgent care in a huge college town, so needless to say I encounter the (no offense on the stereotypes) valley-girl / surfer-guy / in general young-minded dingbats daily. Also, there are older people who are just ridiculous too, so I can't really even blame the stupidity on the younger population.
Anyways, yesterday was one of the most OMFG moments I've had in a while. I check-in a patient, she's telling me what she's being seen for (cold symptoms), I have to ask about LMP. She answers & comments she only knows because they are ttgp. Out of nowhere she then proceeds to ask me about clomid and if the docs at my work would prescribe it. She goes on saying she really wants twins and from her interwebz research she has learned that clomid has a higher chance of multiples. She has even looked into ordering it online from a different country. SAYYYYY WHHAAAAAT?!?!?!?!?!
I calmly looked at her and told her that our docs would not prescribe this medication and her best bet would be an ob. I then let her know that clomid is dangerous and common side effects include cysts and permanently thinning your uterine lining. She just looked at me like I was nuts, then she says something along the lines of, OMG are you serious - I didn't know that? No shit you didn't know that, otherwise you wouldn't be considering ordering this medication off the interwebz. dumbass.
The kicker, she was like 31. SMH.

March 2014: first medicated cycle + iui = BFP!
People are nuts, and thinking that she can just walk into urgent care and walk out with a Rx for Clomid is crazy, but not as crazy as trying to order it online and self medicate! I've never had to take Clomid (thankfully) but a few of my friends did and both ended up with twins; however, using Clomid was a last resort because of the possible side effects. And this crazy lady wants to go on it just to help her chances of having multiples?! Cray cray...
She was talking about how hot the summers are in our city and how I'm lucky I'll have this baby before it really heats up. Then she says that when she decides to have children she will have plan her pregnancies so she's not pregnant during the hot summer. As someone who has had multiple losses, all I could think was "yeah, good luck with that".
She is lucky that she crossed your path!
