Clogged ducts, mastitis, something else?

I'm still EBFing and my baby nurses probably 10-12 times per day (yes, still). This morning I woke up with a 2" x 2" spot on my right boob that was very hard and lumpy.

Over the last few weeks I have had on again off again shooting pain in that boob but didn't think much of it.

There's no redness. I have a really bad head cold but no fever.

Thoughts?

Re: Clogged ducts, mastitis, something else?

  • I would try and massage it a hot shower or put hot rag on it... usually if its mastitis youd have a fever and have flu like symptoms but could lead to that if you dont get rid of the bump.  Massage alot while feeding or pumping.

  • It isn't sore. It's really deep into the tissue and much larger an area than I've had with clogged ducts in the past.

I put a hot washcloth on it and pumped but only got a 1/2 ounce. I'll keep nursing on that side. Hopefully it passes soon.

  • When I had a clogged duct, it was pretty painful to the touch. Massaging while pumping and nursing often on that side is what helped me.

  • Well it definitely was a bunch of clogged ducts. It became painful as the day went on. I massaged and did warm compresses and nothing helped. Then I took a blazing hot shower and I think it's gone! Phew. Ain't nobody got time for mastitis!

    Thanks for the advice ladies.
  • Glad they've released!
