Breastfeeding

Intro & question about stool

Hi! I am a mother of two with my youngest being 11.5 weeks. (J14 in the house!) and oldest being 4.5
Years old. I absolutely love breastfeeding and it's going perfectly. I have had no struggles of supply issues as of yet. DS though, was a nightmare. I'm wondering if this success is because I had such a hard time with him. I'm also strictly mobile on here.

My question is last night she started having diarrhea. She had it this morning, and the whole time it was a bright mustard yellow. A couple of hours later it went straight to a dark, forest green with clumps of mucous in it. It also smells really bad like cabbage. Identical to the smell. We haven't suffered any issues with dairy or any other intolerance, though I am lactose intolerant and try to stay away from it as much as possible. There seems to be no blood in her stool. I have not changed anything out of my diet.

Any advice? Suggestions? Questions I need to ask the dr? She only eats from one side usually and almost always finishes. She is acting normal and doesn't seem cranky at all and does not seem dehydrated. She went from pooping every other day to about 4 or 5 times since yesterday.

Thanks in advance!

You say it was a sudden change. I wonder if she could be sick or fighting something? I might give it a few days and see if it goes back.

If it doesn't go back or keeps popping up, talk to the doctor. My LO would occasionally have diapers like this, but she had no other signs of problems other than eczema when we travelled. We found out at 9m that. She is allergic (not intolerant) to milk, egg, and nuts. When I eat those things, her diapers go bad and her face flares up.
She doesn't have eczema but she does have these small tiny clear/skin colored bumps on her neck, chest, and belly...

  • Another thing to be on the lookout for-- Green stools can sometimes be an indication the baby is getting too much foremilk and not enough hindmilk.

This write-up from Dr. Pankaj Vohra explains it better than I.

  • @VickyTGAW‌ thanks for the article!
  • It was a virus and now I have it. Nothing like being up at 2 and having to nurse your LO while sick in the bathroom... She's over hers but still has those flesh colored bumps on her chest, belly, and under her ears.

Oh bummer. :( The bumps sound like normal baby acne to me. Hope you feel better soon!
