NBR: House smells weird?

This is going to sound crazy, but I am utterly confused and wonder if any of you ladies know what this could be!

On Sunday we prepped a bunch of food and took it to my Grandmother's house for an Easter feast. When we came home, the house smelled very strongly of maple syrup. That's right-maple syrup! It's unmistakable and super weird...we don't even have any syrup in the house.

And it's not just me and my pregnant nose. DH and BIL smell it too, and my mom commented on it when she came over last night.

It's only on the 1st floor and it's very strong. It hasn't dissipated at all...even after opening windows and turning on the fan.

Does anyone know what this could be? :-/ TIA!

I worked in a building once that I thought was great because it smelled like maple syrup....turned out to be mold!!! Hopefully this is not true for your home!

That's comforting.  @-)  I hope that's not it. Maybe maple ham?

Might want to get the house checked for mold. Might want to check the trash also. Make sure it was taken out from all the prep.

Did the smell show up very suddenly? I just don't understand why we would come home to such a strong smell...I feel like mold would cause a gradually intensifying smell? Maybe I'm wrong. This would terrify me.

This would make sense. It would probably be a gradual thing. Did you make a glazed ham? Sometimes smells stick for a long time. I made chicken noodle soup on Sunday and I still smell it every day when I walk in the door.

@MrsSinner402‌ We didn't cook a ham at home...brought that to my grandmother's house to cook. We did lots of "prep" at home, but most of the dishes were cooked/heated there. So strange!

I have no answers.  This just makes me think of fenugreek and how when you take it you smell like maple syrup.

I saw something about that online when I was googling the smell and thought that was really neat! No fenugreek here. Lol - I'm pretty sure I have very little milk at this point, but DS doesn't seem to mind much and I really don't care either. :P

When I google maple syrup smells, I come up with dead animals in walls/ceilings, honeybees, and air vents that need cleaning. I don't know how helpful that is!

@pinkshades05‌ I got the same thing! It really doesn't smell bad at all, like something dead might smell...and I have no idea about bees. It seems to have faded somewhat, but it's still there. Super strange!

The smell was there when I started working there and then they found out later, so I have no idea.
Did you figure it out?!?!

So strange.  Kind of related, kind of not, but last fall there was a maple syrup smell that overtook the NY/NJ area.  It was all over the news as this big mystery.  Everyone could smell it but no one could figure out where it was coming from.  I can't remember if there was ever any resolution so I'm not much help.  So odd how that scent can just permeate everything!
