First Beta Level In *BFP Mentioned* Need Advice/ UPDATED!!

edited April 2014 in Success after IF
Hi Ladies, well I got my first Beta call today. (I'm on the IF board usually) The nurse said they want to see at least a 50 hcg level.  Mine was a 38.5... she said congrats you're 4 weeks pregnant but your level is lower than we like to see. They want me back wednesday and hope to see it at least double.  Anyone have a level like this and have a great second beta and healthy pregnancy? Trying not to stress out and would LOVE to hear your stories for encouragement. Nurse told me to be 'Cautiously Optimistic'...

4/23: 2nd beta in: only 48.9

4/25: 3rd beta in: 167!! its more than tripled... still super low (they want to see at least a 500-600 right now) but we are so happy that it's gone up... not out of the woods yet. Any success stories that started out like this please feel free to share...

4/30: 4th Beta: 1348! (great doubling time even though it's still low) 1st Ultrasound was today! Saw the gestational sac! No yolk sac yet because the gestational sac was measuring small at 4mm... 2nd ultrasound scheduled for this Sunday 5/4!

Anyone have a similar situation? Low Beta's and slow starter that carried full term?

It's SO silly when medical professionals say stuff like this. It's all about the doubling time. I always get very early betas, and thus, low betas. With this pregnancy, I got a beta of 15 the first time around. I just took it to mean that I'd correctly charted my ovulation and I was very early in my pregnancy.

However, my doctor doesn't "call it" until it's 25 or above. So I just called him back when I got my second draw 48 hours later, so he'd put it in the books.

    GL with your next beta!

I hate when medical professionals make us worry like this!  It's not fair.  That is a positive beta, now you just want it to double, or almost double.  Even the doubling is variable, so don't freak over that either.  Right now, you are pregnant.  Congratulations, and GL on your next beta.

My first beta with my current pregnancy was a 14 @ 10 DPO. 48 hrs later it was 99. Doubling time of 17 hrs and I'm pg with twins. So like the other ladies are saying it's really the doubling time, not the starting number.

Mine started out low, not as low as yours, but low enough for me to obsess over (53.4), and it just barely doubled by second beta (108). Currently 8 weeks and definitely not in the clear yet, but I have been discharged.from rma.
FET do tend to start out with lower betas. I drank a ton of water between beta 2 and 3 and my numbers finally shot up.

Try not to stress. Know that regardless of the outcome it is out of your hands and there is nothing you can do. Be positive. Today you are pregnant.. congrats!! Best of luck

Thank you all SO much for the positive words of encouragement! I read last night that Clear Blue Easy digital needs 50 HCG level or higher to detect a pregnancy. So after having 38.5 yesterday I decided to test with the digital this morning (I tested with one two days ago and it said 'Not Pregnant' even though I was getting faint positives with FRER.  Well needless to say this morning the Clear Blue Digital showed me the best gift I've ever gotten... 'PREGNANT'. I was so excited! No idea if my numbers are doubling but I do know that they're rising!! Will keep you all posted after tomorrow's beta, thank you again xoxo

Well, to put it bluntly, this sucks.  I hope your beta today is better but even if it's not know that you will get through this.  Huge hugs sweetie.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

Yay! That's good it's still increasing. How many dpt/DPO are u? Have u checked betabase to see how your numbers look compared to others? It might worry you more or it could put your mind at ease.

@BabyKsMommy I'll have to check Betabase! When I look at the beta calculators online my numbers obviously don't look great because they took 146 hours the first two betas and then between the second and third beta they doubled in 44 hours... I bought the clear blue easy weeks predictor tests.  Currently I'm only showing on their tests at 1-2 weeks (I'm nuts and called Clear blue help line and asked them because I couldn't find ANYWHERE online the levels of HCG that each qualifies for 1-2, 2-3 and 3+ weeks. They told me it's 5-156 hcg for 1-2 weeks, 156-2600 for 2-3 weeks and 2600+ for 3+ weeks. So if I keep doubling the way I should be hopefully by Tues or Wed I should show up as 3+ weeks (that will help ease my mind before the actual Beta and Ultrasound on Wed! haha

I'm currently 19dpo (I had my FET on 4/12 with 2 Five Day Blasts) =)
