food diary for baby

Has anyone kept a food diary for your LO? My little man dropped significantly on his growth curves between his 6 and 9 month well visits. We followed up at 10 months with a growth check and he was lower on the curves. Solids have been a struggle since introduced at 6 months, but now we are wanting to keep a log to determine if his lack of growth is due to lack of calories. We will be meeting with the "Ready, Set, Grow" clinic at our children's hospital soon. Any tips for tracking LO's eating? I should add he is in daycare full time and breastfed (or given pumped bottles +/- formula, mostly breast milk).

Re: food diary for baby

  • Yes, I do. I just use a daily planner, like one I used for school, and track foods. LO doesn't like to drink when he's teething so I do this out if personal choice. It works for us. I do bottles, food, sleep and naps.

  • They make a lot of apps for tracking baby feedings, diapers, and sleep. Maybe on of those would make it easier for you.

  • I haven't at home but we did go through having daycare do a notebook for our older son.  He's always been tiny but the doctor just wanted to check and make sure there were no glaring caloric issues so we just had her write down what he ate and approximately how much.

Out of curiosity, is your LO crawling?  Lots of babies drop weight when they start crawling because they haven't mastered eating enough to offset the burn (oh to be so lucky lol)  Have you tried adding in good fats like olive oil, peanut butter and avocado?

  • @elmoali‌, yes, he Is VERY active. He loves to crawl and stand and walk along edges of furniture. We discussed his activity level, but our biggest struggle is getting him to eat. We offer different colors, textures, etc. and try to allow him to self - feed and be fed. How much did your LO drop on the curve? We went from 58 to 12 to 6. I would like to chalk it up to being a phase, but 4 months seems a little long to be just a phase.

Well my guys have always hovered around 3-10% for weight lol  So our issues wasn't the dropping but the point on the curve as their norm.  Hope you're able to figure it out!
