January 2013 Moms

No lovey

DD still hasn't picked up a security object. I've tried to get her to attach to a few things but it never lasts longer than a day. Any other moms have kids without loveys? From your experience is there something more I should be doing to encourage an attachment or just not worry about it?

Re: No lovey

  • I wouldn't encourage a lovey unless your LO is having real issues sleeping maybe. DD has one that she pretty much hugs all night long and it's cute but I'm a little worried how she'll do if I took her Lemon doll away/it got lost.

  • No lovey for ds. We've tried lots of things too. I thought it might help with sleep, but he won't even touch the things.

  • I can't edit but I meant to add that she wasn't into her lovey until just a couple weeks ago. She used to just sort of sleep next to Lemon but now she hugs her at night.
  • DD doesn't have one. Well she does but it's her thumb.

  • We have one. I encouraged it to help her sleep. She hugs him at night and during her naps. It's also great to have in the car!

Agreed! DD doesn't have any lovey and never took to her thumb or paci. My son though took to his thumb at around 4 months for helping him sleep, then when DD was born he started carrying his blanket around too. It's good for some instances, but really rough if something happens and you can't or don't want to bring it somewhere. After some time though DS has learned that he has his blanket only when we go to daycare/school or just at home, otherwise we place it on the kitchen table or chair before we leave and it's there when we get back :)

  • DS has no lovey. It's great because we don't have to worry about forgetting it or it getting lost! :) but really, he just never developed a connection like that. The closest thing he has to a lovey is a sippy - he loves his milky!!

  • DD could care less about loveys.  I think it's just her personality - she loves legos and physical activity and sorting through drawers of Tupperware lids!!  I have been teaching her to give hugs and kisses to her stuffed animals/dolls (we've been having issues with hitting so I'm trying to teach her about "gentle" touches)...so now she kisses her babies and then throws them down on the floor and goes over to the toys she likes, LOL.

I personally wouldn't worry about it.

they're actually kind of young for loveys.  I don't think it starts for a while yet for most kids.  DS never had one and he's 6 now.  I wouldn't push it, it just happens.

DD likes to hug her dolls and animals but nothing she needs to go to bed.
