Tell me about Gripe Water

Our pedi confirmed that we most likely have a colicky LO. She has a few reflux symptoms, but she's completely fine during the day, and becomes inconsolable from 5-10 PM daily :(. She had us start giving her probiotic drops to help, but it's absolutely breaking my heart to listen to her cry for hours :(

Does anyone use gripe water for colic? Does it work for you?

  • We use gripe water for upset stomach and it seems to work well!

  • We use it sometimes, and it works. And I think Isla likes the taste. She licks her lips as we're giving it to her. It's cute.

  • We've tried gripe water, gas drops, and probiotics. The gas drops maybe help her fart slightly less ( seriously, the farts are constant) but she's still cranky. Nothing else made a bit of difference. I'm just trying to stay positive while waiting for her to grow out if it.
  • I tried gripe water with LO and I think it works. It doesn't necessarily fix a whole evening of fussiness, but it helps. Sometimes it's just what she needs to settle and sleep. I've been giving her a probiotic the last few days as well, and I'm really noticing a difference.
  • How old is your LO?

We have used gripe water but honestly it only helps if DD is truly gassy. Many nights she just has regular fussiness and crying for a few hours and then goes to sleep. It's getting better as she gets older.

  • Almost 8 weeks. Today was our second day on the probiotic, so we haven't seen much change but I know it takes time.

Our pedi also have us a script for Zantac if we noticed the reflux symptoms continuing. I really didn't want to give her medication but tonight I broke down and gave her some. Poor baby is so miserable :(

  • Cam has reflux, he's not colicky, but is also on probiotics, Zantac, and Maalox (wtf!). I've used gripe water when he was having gas pains and also when he has hiccups right after eating. It's been a lifesaver for us!

I feel so bad for you and your princess, @AriaAmante143‌ . Having an upset baby that you can't console must be the worst thing ever :( I hope you find something that helps her asap!!

Are you nursing? I dropped dairy and soy from my diet and found that helped when DS was five weeks and cried all the time - DD hasn't been bad at all, but I did the same thing to avoid gassiness...and gripe water for those occasions when I eat bad foods, lol...chocolate is too hard to drop entirely even though I know it could irritate her...so it's very limited. With DS, I started back on dairy around 4-5 months...
  • How is everyone administering the gripe water? LO chokes and gags when we use the syringe and doesn't like medi dispenser paci either! We are EBF so he really rejects anything else - he's 3 weeks today...

I pump off some beast milk, and put it in a bottle. My LO doesn't like taking it from the syringe either.
